I'm a little ashamed to say, but "Frequency" makes me damn near cry every time. My pop was a firefighter who died of cancer years ago when I was a kid. Watching that flick, I dunno, hits all the hopes of a kid who wants nothing but to have a relationship with a parent that was cut off too early.

I'm not an extremely paranoid person but I like my privacy and I'm insecure about letting people know about myself. When I saw The Conversation when I was 20 I connected with that film instantly. The movie nailed exactly how I feel all the time. When the landlady leaves him a birthday preasent and he's not even comfortable with her knowing it's his birthday. THAT is how feel. I actually find it kind of hard to watch. It plays more like a horror movie to me.

Mean Streets. While I have absolutely nothing to do with organized crime, it was the first film I ever saw that had Italian-American New Yorkers acting like people I knew acted. The type of ball busting, the style of insults, etc. The Sopranos nailed this as well, there is certainly an Italian-American/New York idiomatic shorthand/perspective about certain things (namely family) that only certain writers/directors can nail. Scorsese being principle among them. Another great film in this regard is Anne Bancroft's Fatso.

The exact opposite of such a film would be Moonstruck.

Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. Swap Vienna for Cairo and Paris for Berlin and that's me.

I was on the outside-looking-in in high school and this film seemed to capture what I saw very well.

All the movies I like speak to me on a personal level... if they didn't, I wouldn't like them.

Carrie - I'm not dumb, or a girl, but other than that, and not having powers, this is me
Friday The 13th - wanting to get revenge on people that have messed with you is awesome
Law Abiding Citizen - same as Friday The 13th

500 Days of Summer, specifically the skewed perspective aspect of it where JGL's character interprets the relationship as perfectly fine and great until replaying the scenes in his head and realizing otherwise. Also the split screen between expectations and reality.

50/50 also, not for myself in that position, but others I know.

American Pie was also the perfect time frame for the end of my high school years, so a lot of the feelings and antics were relateable at the time, as well as the ongoing relationship and friendship stuff in the ensuing movies. Without the wacky antics or pie fucking though.

I watched Big Fish not long after my dad died and it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Can't Hardly Wait came out the same year I graduated from high school so it captures that particular time in my life quite well.

When I was 11 or 12 years old we used to watch Major League almost daily to psych ourselves up to go out and play baseball every day during the Summer. I can watch it and feel that carefree time in my life again. The Sandlot really hits home for me too for those same reasons...minus the silly Babe Ruth baseball subplot.
