'White House Down' Trailer: Channing Tatum Plays Hero to Jamie Foxx's President (Video)

As a paramilitary group attacks the nation’s capital, Channing Tatum – as a Secret Service agent – must protect Jamie Foxx’s President of the United States. In the newly released preview, the media is front and center as news anchors narrate the crippling destruction facing Washington, D.C., and more specifically, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Combine that with a foreboding quote from Abraham Lincoln, and the drama heats up yet another notch.

The action thriller is being compared to the likes of Die Hard, with Independence Day and 2012 helmer Roland Emmerich directing. Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods, Richard Jenkins and Jason Clarke also star.

What does Emmerich have against the White House?

Trailer was okay, but I don't think it really sold me on this yet. In the last 13 years, Emmerich has only directed 1 R-rated movie (The Patriot) With Tatum being the lead here, I think Sony would want to expose this to a mass audience and not limit it with an R rating. I'm sensing this will get a PG-13. Plus it didn't show anything of Tatum being a badass.

Olympus has Fallen's trailer was kickass and sold me on the movie right away and it helped being a clear cut hard R-rated movie.

at 1st I thought Godzilla was destroying the Capitol and then the White House. The trailer didn't show they were under attack.

Air Force One getting shot looked cool.

Those CG choppers going down the street were terrible!

That's a great cast and I'm pretty much sold on Tatum now but the movie looks pretty meh. Much like that other White House flick with Butler, it just isn't an interesting enough premise for me.

Is this the 4th film this year to depict the President in danger?

Awful. Olympus Has Fallen looks better on every level!

Its a summer movie directed by Roland Emmerich so we already know exactly how much substance this movie will have. It also pretty much guarantees a PG-13 rating.

Unless it gets horrible reviews I'll probably see it for some fun, goofy action. I'm not expecting much though.

That shot of Channing Tatum at about 1:43 into the trailer where he's shooting his gun wildly made me chuckle a little bit. Absolutely terrible.

Is it just me or did they purposely make Jamie Foxx up to look like Obama? He looks like he's wearing lighter make up or something.

The movie lost me at Jamie Foxx as President.

Except for 10,000 BC (or whatever the name was), Emmerich has never failed to entertain me in a movie. May be a dumb film but what do you want from a popcorn film. I'll see it.

Looks like more fun then Olympus Has Fallen, which I thought was decent.

Such a change from the first trailer. This one makes it seem like it's Tatum from 21 Jump Street.

Trying to separate themselves from Olympus Has Fallen with this new trailer...and it's working IMO. I went from 'meh' to 'kinda interested'.

Now that was a good trailer. Liked that they added some humor in it. Looks like there is some good action in it too. I think I will check it out now.

Terrible CG integration aside (it looks like they're all standing in front of screens) it looks fun.

Agreed. Assuming the humor is consistent throughout I'll be happy to see this in the theater. I'm not expecting Dark Knight or Avengers quality but this should be cheesy fun.

If he's on his game Emmerich knows how to deliver a fun Summer movie.

Tatum has proved that he can be funny. Glad they are leveraging that. Looks fun.

i honestly think the director and writer loves chaos... i mean they literally dream disasters and global destruction

The new trailer has sort of a 'buddy film' feel to it, which I actually like. That's certainly a fresh take on the buddy formula to make it the President and his Secret Service agent.

people eat up all that CGI eye candy.

From the trailer, Tatum goes for a job interview which doesn't seem to go well. Then the action happens. After watching it, I started laughing. What if after the action & he saves the day, they still don't think he's good for the job. That can set Tatum up as the bad guy in part 2: White House Down 2: Rejected
