Plot:

Really like Young Adult, Thank You For Smoking, and Up in the Air so I'm looking forward to this as well.

I'm down for this. I've really liked all of Jason Reitman's films so far, particularly Up in the Air. Has a pretty decent cast too.

Like all his movies so far, including Juno, so why not.

I was in Boston while they were filming this and met Josh Brolin at a hole in the wall pizza joint.

Sounds like quirky good fun. Interesting cast too. Big Josh Brolin fan

I'm glad this isn't another light holiday movie, a la Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve.

Great cast, with Agent Coulson to boot.

Comments about the novel include descriptors like "powerful lesson on love and loss" and "deeply moving." Seems like a bit of a tonal shift for Reitman.

I don't know, I know a lot of people that found Up in the Air to be depressing as hell

I never realized just how much people wanted happy endings until that movie came out.

Just for the record I'm one of the ones who found UP IN THE AIR to be depressing as hell but I also thought it was fantastic. As depressing as I thought it was it didn't need a happy ending.

Damn, I was hoping for a holiday themed slasher like Mother's Day or the like.

I wouldn't say it had an unhappy ending. It wasn't a blockbuster type one, but it was a fitting one.

A lot better than the Lindsay Lohan movie I thought this movie was by glancing at the title.

looks like Reitman has switched his style up quite a bit

I really enjoyed this movie. Perfect example of why critics can be useless to me. I loved the atmosphere of the movie and of course Winslet was fantastic as usual. Certainly different than anything Reitman has done so far, but a solid entry in his filmography IMO. Don't let reviews keep you away from at least seeing it.

I love Kate Winslet in anything. I know the reviews weren't good, but I will definitely check this out at home.

Yeah I rented this a few weeks ago. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Winslet was solid as usual. Have been a fan of hers for years. Brolin was solid as well. He had good chemistry with Winslet. I liked that it was somewhat of a different take on a love story. I loved how they incorporated the flashbacks to Frank's past. That dude Tom Lipinski, who played the younger Frank, OMG, he really looks like a younger Josh Brolin. Striking resemblance. I remember him playing Mike's asshole friend on Suits.

Gattlin Griffith did a great job as Henry. I liked how they used Tobey Maguire's narration and then he made a brief appearance at the end playing the adult version.

Definitely a good rental if you've never seen it and are a fan of Winslet and or Reitman's work.

Rented it and absolutely loved it, went into it blind and one of the best movies I've seen in some time.

We watched it the other day and enjoyed it as well. I don't care for too many romantic chick flick type of movies, but I didn't mind catching this one with my wife.

Yeah. It doesn't come off as a romantic comedy.
