Heat remake (2013 - Statham, dir. Simon West)
From Deadline:
Simon West has signed on to direct the remake of Heat. The Expendables 2 director replaces Brian De Palma on the remake of the 1987 Burt Reynolds film. Jason Statham, who West directed in The Mechanic, stars in the enforcer role that Reynolds originally played in the action movie. The screenplay is by William Goldman, who wrote the original 1987 script from his novel. Steven Chasman will produce for SJ Pictures alongside Statham. Quad Films whose credits include The Intouchables and Heart Breaker, are a co-producer on the film. Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales. Heat will commence principal photography in February 2013. Simon West is represented by CAA.

Ok, ok... so it's not that HEAT, but have any of you seen the Reynolds classic? I caught it on Netflix last year and - holy crap - it is a thing of horrible beauty.
Interesting to note that DePalma was circling this. Wonder what drew him in?

When I first read the title I was thinking to myself "really??" Glad to hear it isn't the Michael Mann movie as that is great and shouldn't be touched. I haven't seen the original Heat with Burt Reynolds but it sounds like it could be alright. I like Statham so I'll probably check this out at some point.

When I saw the threat title I too thought it was a remake of the Michael Mann movie. My first thought was "great, a remake of a remake?"
I never heard of the Burt Reynolds flick.

This has been in motion for a while I think, but the most important thing about the whole project is that William Goldman is writing again.

I never saw Heat because I couldn't get past seeing Burt in that ridiculous toupee. But I saw the dvd at dollar tree today, so I picked it up and plan to watch it tonight based on the recommendations in this thread.

Well, I was confusing Heat with Malone, that was the one with the really bad hair piece... But I have to say, the Maltin book got one right... The film is a mess...
