Re: Jackie Chan Retires From Action Movies

He's been transitioning to drama for some time now. So this isn't unexpected.

That said, I see his last flick is a Hollywood production. I'd rather he bow out of action in an HK production. Those are usually his best anyway.

Re: Jackie Chan Retires From Action Movies

So his last action movie is a Brett Ratner film?

Awesome.

Yeah...I'm glad he stopped now. He was tarnishing the fuck out of his career for sure. He's been doing pretty good w/ drama so...good for him. His las great film was Drunken Master II. That was in '98. Though I did enjoy Rush hour 2...but it wasn't DM2 great either.

He was pretty good in the Karate Kid from a few years ago.

Yeah but...it wasn't anywhere near his quality in DM2.

You can't compare the two. DM2 was an action extravaganza. KK was a dramatic role for Chan. He excelled at both for very different reasons.

Re: Jackie Chan Retires From Action Movies

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe he's supposed to return as Mr. Han for the Karate Kid sequel. I guess that doesn't really count as an action movie and he's not the lead.

Yeah I too have noticed his transition to dramas, specifically period. I really liked 1911.

Now you know why I was comparing DM2 and RH2.

Been meaning to get that. I really liked his supporting work in Shaolin and his co-staring role in Little Big Soldier

He stopped making good action in the late 90's. "Gorgeous" and "Who Am I?" have awesome action scenes.

Yeah Well Go USA made some really solid Blu-Rays for all three of those movies. They are alot cheaper than buying the counterparts made in Hong Kong. The picture quality in 1911 is really good.

Re: Jackie Chan Retires From Action Movies

would have been nice to see him go out with a fight in Expendables 2 against Van Damme or Li.

There is a part of me that wished The Forbidden Kingdom (2003) was better.

Re: Jackie Chan Retires From Action Movies

He did run circles around Jet Li in the gravitas department for Forbidden Kingdom so yeah he does have that knack.

I'd be happier if he stopped making those awful V8 commercials.

Re: Jackie Chan Retires From Action Movies

He clarified the issue, he is not retiring from action movies, he is just not going to do all his high risk stunts

Re: Jackie Chan Retires From Action Movies

Apparently this is his last big action movie (in regards to him doing big time stunt work). He's the director, writer, and choreographer of this picture.

Re: Jackie Chan Retires From Action Movies

makes me cringe seeing the obvious wire work. Used to not be so obvious. On the other hand..it doesn't look as bad as his others.

Re: Jackie Chan Retires From Action Movies

If he did more dramas like the Shinjuku Incident I would see them.

Re: Jackie Chan Retires From Action Movies

As long as he's still making movies, I can live with that. He had a hell of a run with action films.

I thought Rush Hour 4 was still coming along, though.
