So much for the Whedon loyal. They talk tough on the net, but when it comes down to getting their asses to the theater they flake out.

Or maybe they did all go. Just because they're vocal doesn't mean there's actually that many of them.

I don't think the Whedon loyalists number in the millions or even the hundred thousands. And Stooges was actually a funny movie and the three lead actors did a great job playing their respective roles.

^ I would say at least two to three million, since that's what his TV shows typically drew. Since we are loyalists, we are also a constant source of income, as we will buy the BR and all that jazz.

Don't count Whedon out, I have a feeling the Avengers will show just how many loyal fans he has when its opening weekend numbers hit!!!

Isn't this the first time a movie has been #1 for four weeks in a long time?

Whedon is not the selling point for the Avengers.

Just because a show or movie gets a large group of people to watch it doesn't make everyone that watches it a loyalist to that particular creator. There are shitloads of people that watch Transformers movies but does that mean that we have millions of Bay loyalists? I know there are thousands of people that really like most of the things that Whedon does but I doubt that there are millions of loyalists.

That's right, they wouldn't go if he wasn't the director! (I think you were kidding though) But I'm glad the guy finally got into the upper echelon of movies. Not to knock his previous success - he's carved out an impressive niche on his own of course, even though I'm not a huge fan.

Re: Box Office Weekend (4/13-4/15): The Hunger overcomes the Stooges in the Woods

The majority of people I know, even those who love Buffy and Angel, have no fucking idea who Joss Whedon is... of course I like to go on large rants praising the guy, but you'd be surprised how many people in the 'general public' have no idea who writes or directs this or that thing...and most of them don't care... I have no problem with that, but the vocal fanbase on the net who actually know a film writer or director before going to see a movie is marginal at best.

Avengers doesn't count, because people are there to see the characters. No one cares about Whedon in that regard. People will still see the film even if Alan Smithee were to direct it.

I thought Titanic would be a lot bigger. Maybe it's cause this generation doesn't realize it's based on a true story.

It will certainly raise his profile in Hollywood, though.

Maybe the film just hasn't aged well... And possibly the 3D re-release craze has about run it's course.

The massive success of The Hunger Games means I can look forward to a surge of shitty young adult adaptations. Terrific.
