Saw The Lorax with my daughter for her third birthday on Friday. Cute flick but I had no clue it would make this kind of money.

Probably made the money due to the lack of kid's movies out right now.

Wow, I really, really, really underestimated the appeal of The Lorax. It cleaned up.

I cannot believe anyone saw Project X. The trailer looked just so god awful, but I guess I am just not the target audience.

Surprised at The Lorax. Guess family films are kind of a guaranteed hit nowadays, especially if there's no major competition for the same market like the Holiday season.

Does this mean GHOST RIDER 2 and THIS MEANS WAR are officially flops?

^ I would hope so. Nicolas Cage and Reese Witherspoon need to make movies together, so they can only cost the studios one flop simultaneously as opposed to wasting money on individual ones.

Nicolas Cage is a master of disaster. Reese Witherspoon isn't in his league.

So they should remake She's Out of My League and reverse it.

Yeah, there were just way too many childrens films releasd from Thanksgiving to Christmas. All could have made a cool 50-75M more each had there not been so many ("The Muppets", "Hugo", "Arthur Christmas" etc etc).

Re: Weekend Box Office (3/02-3/04): The Lorax Makes A Lot of Green

Thanks for the thread, auto, and good title too (since we're now judging those ).

Surprised by the Lorax numbers, but I did like Despicable Me and Horton Hears a Who so I'll probably catch up with this.

Fortuitous that Dr. Seuss' birthday fell on Friday so they could tie the movie in with that date. For a number of years, elementary schools have celebrated Seuss' birthday as Read Across America Day, and this year I know they were all mentioning The Lorax in the same breath.

Plus they obviously spent a fortune on advertising.
