Vacation - REBOOT/SEQUEL (2015, D: Daley/Goldstein) S: Helms, Applegate

I thought that National Lampoon Family Reunion idea talked about in the 90s was interesting. Vegas Vacation was so bad National Lampoon didn't have it's name on it. Well if it must be reboot Joel McHale would be a great Clark.

Isn't this going to be Rusty taking his own family on a vacation? So, not exactly a reboot, but a re-something. They should get Jason Lively back.

I think the success of this all depends on who will be playing the male lead. Personally, I think Ryan Reynolds would be hilarious in it.

A well cast Rusty with Chevy on board as gramps has potential.

If they did go with a past 'Rusty', here's what they all look like now.

Anthony Michael Hall. Way too old and sinister-looking to pull off Rusty these days... he looks like a hybrid of Michael Douglas and Maclolm McDowell. He's only 43 but somehow looks like a 60 year old in recent pics... I mean, come on - http://www.imdb.com/media/rm671527424/nm0001309

Jason Lively (on right). I could buy him as a dad and he still has that Rusty 'look' to him, but of all the Rustys he's the one who doesn't have any acting credits since 1993. No way a studio would bank a major movie with him in the lead.

Johnny Galecki. I'm too connected to his Big Bang Theory character to buy him as a dad/family man.

Ethan Embry. I could buy him as a dad if the kids were young enough, but I don't think enough people associate with the role for anyone to bother casting him over a bigger name.

2 minutes in is Jason Lee doing his Clark Griswold imitation. I know this isn't a reboot but if it was Lee should play Clark

Jason Segel would be my pick.

Sometimes I feel i'm the only one who enjoyed Vegas Vacation. Even Chevy Chase has gone on record saying he hates the film.

Yeah, that could be great if they had Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo playing Clark and Ellen as grandparents, with adult versions of Rusty and Audrey. Could also stick Randy Quaid in it, too, if he still isn't batshit insane. There's no need for a complete reboot.

Jason Segal and Jason Lee aren't bad choices for Rusty.

Never liked the movies as a kid, actually I hated them. Should probably try them out as an adult.

I enjoyed it as well. It fits in well with the franchise and the comic sensibility fits right in with the first two films. IMO the main problem with the film is Chevy Chase himself, who doesn't give the role the same energy he did in the previous films (although this was pretty much typical of all his 1990s/2000s work up until Community).

I also enjoy Vegas Vacation. Not the best of the series, but still an entertaining flick.

I just read a few minutes ago that Ed Helms is supposedly in talks for the role of Clark.

I think Anthony Michael Hall should get first rights of refusal for this...although I'm sure he won't. You know Hollywood, they'll think he's too old for the part (even though he's exactly the right age).

Michael is by far the best actor to play Rusty.

I'm down for it. Would be great to see Chevy Chase make a cameo.

Vegas Vacation fan here.

I ran a Vacation fansite in the early 2000s. It's one of my favorite film series (sans European Vacation), but where has Chevy gone on record to say he hated Vegas? If you Google "Chevy Chase hated Vegas Vacation", this thread is the first thing that pops up.

Just curious more than anything because I think Vegas is very underrated. It's my favorite of the series next to the first one. A lot of classic one-liners for me, and Wayne Newton is hilarious.

Also, Vegas Vacation didn't get the National Lampoon stamp because they thought the movie was awful. Warner Bros. didn't feel the National Lampoon title was recognizable anymore by the time the movie came out in 1997. They were the final decision makers on that.

And here's the original thread on this reboot. This "Rusty Takes Over" idea has been floating around for a few years.

I always have liked Vegas Vacation too. I enjoy the original and Christmas Vacation more but I always thought Vegas was better than European Vacation was.

As far as a new film goes based off Rusty, I'm somewhat interested depending on who they go with for playing Rusty. I think it'd be nice if they at least had Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo make a cameo of some sort.

Maybe try the first one.

As for the reboot, no matter who they get it's gonna suck. It's just gonna suck. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer.

The original is a classic (just happen to catch it on HBO last weekend and still funny as hell). All of the sequels are forgettable except for a few funny scenes in each of them. Please no reboot!
