Well you had ME at Cooper. Duvall is just the icing on Cooper, and Bale is some nice piping work on the icing of Duvall, on the cake of Cooper.

Looks like Robert Duvall isn't a part of this, dropped out at some point. He's not on the cast list and this already wrapped up filming last June.

In an interview with USA Today, OUT OF THE FURNACE director Scott Cooper (CRAZY HEART) cited the inspiration for the script to be Pearl Jam's track "Release" from their debut album, Ten. If you're familiar with the song (a personal favorite of mine) then you know how deeply intense and emotional it is. While the focus on the song was on the relationship, or lack there of between singer Eddie Vedder and his Father, it certainly captures the tone of what Cooper wants from his film. Cooper even flew to Seattle to take a cut of the movie to Vedder who was "deeply moved" by what he saw and then decided to contribute to the soundtrack.

I wish that trailer could have shown me more of the film. Unbelievable, all it was missing was the credits.

I wonder if this will be a future candidate for the "movies hurt by their release date" thread. I know it's awards season but this seems like a pretty bleak movie to release just a few weeks before Christmas.

Looks like one I can get behind. I love Bale though, so there's that. Great looking cast.

Edit: I was so confused for the last couple of minutes while posts were being moved. I promised I searched!

I'll check it out. But there's something about movie stars playing small town working-class hicks - that is really hard to pull off. I'm reminded of Zoolander posing as a miner.

My issue with the movie is it just looks really generic. It looks like a Jason Statham movie done arthouse style.

The movie is pure working class misery from start to finish. It’s nicely acted as far as that’s feasible.

So it looks like The Bank Job? Cos that was awesome.

They shot this film in 17 days. My library books go out longer than that.
