I heard about this awhile back and although the basic premise sounds stupid, I have a strong feeling it will actually be quite good.

The premise doesn't do much for me but the last time these two worked together magic happened.

"Julian lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family's drugs smuggling operation. When Julian's brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna, arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian's contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly."

I don't think I can buy Gosling with an English accent. Sounds like it would go over as well as Leo's South African accent in Blood Diamond.

How do you know he's English in film?

Also..I think DiCaprio did fine. Got some S. African friends...they agreed that it was good. Not all of them sound like Wikus.

This article says Gosling's character is an Englishman

I didn't expect DiCaprio to sound like Wikus of D9....the accent just didn't work for me IMO (and in a ton of other people's opinions). It felt like a guy faking an accent, didn't sound natural. Robert Downey Jr on the otherhand does a spot on perfect English accent. You'd never think the guy was American if you didn't know who he was.

Gosling was Refn's "In" into Hollywood, I think you'll see a few more collabs, and I wouldn't be surprised if Tom Hardy shows up in this movie, or Mads for that matter.

This also looks to be strong in the violence department like Drive. I honestly cannot fathom how that movie got an R and not an NC-17 or Unrated release.
