The Frozen Ground (2012) - D: Scott Walker, S: N. Cage, J. Cusack

An Alaska State Trooper partners with a young woman who escaped the clutches of serial killer Robert Hansen to bring the murderer to justice. Based on actual events.

Interesting, especially having John Cusack play a serial killer.

Nic Cage, John Cusack & Vanessa Hudgens...and...50 Cent.

Trailer:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/GZSo12hMuKE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Synopsis:

When teenage prostitute Cindy Paulson (Vanessa Hudgens) is found by police officers - beaten and pleading for her life - in an Alaskan motel room, everyone is quick to dismiss her version of events. However, U.S. state trooper Sgt. Jack Halcombe (Nicolas Cage), soon comes to believe that Cindy is the only surviving victim of a local serial killer, responsible for a series of murders of young women in the past decade. Lacking the support of his department, Halcombe must find Cindy, gain her trust and form an unlikely partnership in order to track down the man who still wants to kill her. John Cusack also stars.

Now comes out August 23rd

Coming to theaters in the UK July 19th

Trailer looks good. Interesting seeing Cusack as a serial killer.

Watching the show on the real life case on the ID Channel was scary enough.

Hope that the movie is as good.

Shit that looks really good. If only Nicolas Cage would be more selective about what he chooses to star in he'd probably have more credibility as an actor because when he wants he actually can pull off a good performance.

I believe Cage has serious financial problems that's why he's been taking so many jobs and a lot of them are low budget B movies as opposed to good scripts with A list directors.

Both Nicolas Cage and John Cusack seem to be in the Direct-to-video business lately. This looks like a decent thriller. Hopefully it turns out to be good.

At first I thought he was only listed as a producer, but IMDB has him cast as a pimp

If they added John Malkovich they could've had a Con-Air reunion.

Just watched this and although plot wise it is paint-by-numbers, Nicolas Cage gives a solid performance and John Cusack is creepy and threatening enough. Hudgens for her part isn't bad either. However, outside of them, and some respectable production design recreating the early 80s, it's nothing particularly memorable.

Ah that's too bad. The trailer made it look like it could be something really great. I'm still going to see it though when it hits Blu-ray (it never made theaters where I'm at).

Yeah, I would still recommend it. I can see why it didn't make it to theaters (given neither Cage nor Cusack are box office draws anymore) but it's better than some direct-to-video releases I've come across over the past couple of years. I wonder how it would've been with somebody like a Michael Mann at the helm, though.

The true story is pretty horrifying. It seems like a movie that would be hard to mess up. I was really looking forward to seeing it in the theaters, but a rental will do.

I just reviewed this title as well for - ahem, another IB-owned website - and my reaction pretty much mirrors the review found here (I think I enjoyed it a little more than the DVD Talk reviewer)...a nicely restrained performance from Cage that's worth checking out (but like the reviewer here says, not worth more than a rental).
