Sure, actors, a certain director, hell even a composer can influence if you see a movie or not, but a producer? really? why do studios think that's something that needs to be stated in an ad for an upcoming flick?

If it's produced by Menahem Golan & Yoram Globus, yes. Ditto on Corman.

But, since that isn't exactly relevant to today's films, I'd have to go with "no".

I find this done a lot with the horror genre, or any movie when the producer is a bigger name then the director. I remember a lot of my friends thinking Tarantino directed Hostel for example.

It depends on who the Producer is. From what I've seen a Producer like Jerry Bruckheimer, Frank Marshall or Gale Anne Hurd are on set and pretty involved with the production. They didn't write the scripts, but they approved them, got the studio to finance the movie, hired the director and are involved with the casting. So I consider those people pretty important.

Executive Producers in features I could care less about. Those are essentially name only credits. Executive Producers are more important in television.

No. He didn't direct Hostel, he directed Hero.

Does the claim "from the producers of..." really get you intersted in a movie? No

For me the #1 priority is the director.

They're not really advertising to "you" as in the Internet savvy person who frequents movie/DVD based message boards and news sites, it's more towards the people who have no idea what a director is, let alone follows someone's filmography and only go to see the movie 'cause like Channing Tatum is like, so hot!

So, nah. Not really.

Yep. Average Joe SixPack hasn't a clue what a Producer even is, but you slap a line like "From the Producers of 'The Hangover'" onto an ad and many of them will just assume it's going to be just like 'The Hangover'.

JJ Abrams for me. Only reason I watched Mission Impossible 4, and I loved it!

Yeah, pretty much this.

It only seems to matter if the credit is for a well-known director producing someone else's film. I'm sure that when "Man of Steel" is being advertised it will be known that Christopher Nolan is producing right alongside Zack Snyder's directorial name.

A big deal was made over James Cameron producing that indie 3D film "Sanctum" as well, though that didn't help the movie at all from what I've heard about it.

If the producer is Guillermo del Toro then yes. His producing credits on both The Orphanage and Don't be Afraid of the Dark were part of their selling points.

Don't think it's ever been an influence in the past for me.

See there's the difference. If its someone I know and like, and he cares enough to attach his name to the movie, then yes, it gets me interested, because obviously he thinks we should see it.

But when random smut comedy puts out a trailer that says "from the producers of ..." without even naming those producers, it's a money grab for stupid people, and I tune it out.

The worst I ever saw was in advertisements for The Town: "From the Studio that brought you The Departed!"

They should have also mentioned Mystic River for the Boston trifecta.

That's pretty desperate for Warner to do that.

They could've gone further and put "Taking place in the same state as The Departed". Only more stylized than that.

No for me it does not. And agree with the above.
