Battle of the Bands #7: AC/DC vs. Van Halen
Two legendary hard rock bands that managed to thrive after lead singer changes.
So, which is better?

Not really big on either but I never really liked AC/DC whereas Van Halen I enjoy at least their hits.

Close one for me, but chose AC/DC.

Liked them both equally early on in their careers. AC/DC - I really haven't listened to anything or really liked anything after the Back n Black album. Van Halen was probably a bit better later on but it's hard to choose who is better overall.

Tough call. Not what I listen to today but grew up listening to both.
Bon Scott ACDC vs David Lee Roth Van Halen were nearly equal in my mind. Different but both had cred.
So I go with......ACDC simply because Brian Johnson was acceptable and Sammy Hagar was horrendous and ruined the band.

Tough one.
Musically Van Halen covers more ground and makes it more interesting, but lyrically they always seemed pretty shallow. AC/DC seems like the opposite by covering more ground lyrically but is pretty limited in their sound.
Say what you will about "Van Hagar" but even the worst of Hagar era stuff isn't as bad as Jump. I can't change the channel fast enough when that shit comes on.
I'll give the edge to AC/DC.

Both have been my two favorite bands since high school. Specifically the Scott and Roth-era's. Tough for me to choose one over the other. Perhaps I'll reserve judgement until I hear VH's new album w/ Roth.

Van Halen.
Eddie's playing gives it the edge for me. I love me some good AC/DC, but they always write the same album. VH doesn't play it quite so safe. I'm very curious to hear their new material.

Bon Scott > David Lee Roth > Brian Johnson > Sammy Hagar
Highway To Hell is a perfect hard rock album. Not sure Van Halen ever matched it. AC/DC FTW.

Both some of the best.
and you are missing out comparing the singers.. that's NOT what was good about those bands, not even close, probably the least importance.
Sad that you are judging them on that, wow.

AC/DC was basically unstoppable from TNT through Back in Black. All eight of those albums are worth owning. VH was equally unstoppable at their peak but had a shorter run (debut through 1984). The edge goes to AC/DC.
