NME: Lady Gaga in talks to become new singer of Queen

Brian May says the band would like to take the 'Poker Face' singer on tour with them

Lady Gaga is "in talks" to tour with Queen as their singer, according to reports today (October 6).

According to Queen guitarist Brian May, who collaborated with the singer on her recent single 'You & I', Gaga is someone who the band have approached to front them in the future.

Speaking to the Daily Express, May said that the band talk about touring together all the time, but still have to recruit a singer after parting ways with Paul Rodgers in 2009.

Asked about the possibility of Queen playing live again, May said: "We talk about going out on the road all the time but there's a bit of a singer problem, to put it mildly. We get a lot of offers to work with other people. I worked with Lady Gaga and she's very creative and is someone we've talked about singing, fronting the band with. She's not just a singer, she writes her own material."

May also said that the band are looking into the possibility of doing duets with a series of artists, perhaps in a TV show format.

He added: "We have talked about doing duets with other people and in a strange way I almost pressed the yes button. We were debating the idea of a TV show where we have all these guest stars. We didn't press it today but we are still looking at it. Lady Gaga has said she would like to do something with us."

Here's an ides: Let Queen live on through its existing legacy instead of trying endlessly to recapture magic that you can't have without Freddie Mercury.

Or, worst case scenario, get George Michael to be the permanent new frontman. It's not like he's doing anything else anyway and maybe they could all write some material together for a new album.

NME is just about the least reliable music reporting agency out there.

At the same time, I don't doubt May (and especially Taylor) would try this. They'll do anything for a buck.

I remember Brian May wistfully proclaiming in an interview that they could never even think about replacing Freddie as a tear welled up in his eye. Guy's full of crap.

I would totally attend a party hosted by this guy, that included midgets with dishes on their heads loaded with cocaine.

Why would anybody want this? Obviously the Queen fans wouldn't, and I think the Gaga fans would rather she do her thing on her own.

After seeing this performance 20 years ago (damn! already?), I thought Gary Cherone would be a decent Queen frontman

I would see Queen on tour with that guy filling in. If I want to see Lady Gaga then I want to see her for her and not as part of Queen.

the closest we'll ever probably get to see this is maybe a show in the UK or have a full blown tribute show on the 20th anniversary of Freddies death (Nov 24) w several artists helping out.

Agreed. Love the guy with Free and Bad Co, but with Queen it was awful. Gaga would actually be a better choice.

I would be offended in some way if I thought anything of either Lady Gaga or Queens music.

I didn't even know Queen put out new music or anything like that. But while I think no person should ever be singing Queen (what they did on The Voice was just awful), I do think Gaga would be a good fit as that's her personality and while I don't enjoy her much, I can see this happening. How well of a hit, or how much hate, this would be is a big ?

I can sort of see where her flair for theatrics might seem like an ideal fit, but even if it actually worked, I can't imagine most of the middle-aged (and up) Queen fans are going to be to very receptive to the idea of Lady Gaga as the lead singer of Queen.
