Is Veronica Mars always on sale at Amazon??

I've wanted to sell my 3 seasons of VM for a LONG time now and Amazon is making it impossible.

The MSRP doesn't seem to have dropped, the other major online stores seem to have the seasons selling for what you'd expect for an entire season of a tv show that isn't very old, but Amazon is selling it for like $15 or so, which makes selling it almost impossible.

I'd have to basically give them away and I thought it was a sale and it would go back up, but I've been waiting for at least 3 months now. I don't get it.

At this point, a profit of $45-50 would probably be good enough and, honestly, if not for Amazon, I'd be able to get more, and with the never ending, makes no sense sale, I don't know if I could even get that much.

Why would Amazon be giving a show away like this? I've never seen anything like this where the price went down without a major MSRP drop and stayed down for no reason that makes any sense.

What's going on? Why would they do that?

I was actually thinking of posting this deal on it.
http://www.deepdiscount.com/dvd/Vero...st-3rd-Seasons

you can get all 3 seasons at DD for 40.00 shipped. Amazon has it in the 50 range last time I looked for this 3 pack. WB seems to be dumping overstock on it. They've been doing it on the individual seasons for a while.

Re: Is Veronica Mars always on sale at Amazon??

Once in a while, maybe or at stores to dump single sets, I have seen that, but nothing like this. Even Wal*mart online is selling these for much more than Amazon's prices. Like 3 times higher. If Amazon can keep these on sale for this long, why wouldn't the other stores be doing it as well? Wouldn't they want to dump overstock too? How long can you be overstocked before you go back to trying to make some kind of profit on the sets? It's like being able to get a car at only one dealership for 10k and everywhere else sells the exact same car for 30k. Why would anyone shop anywhere else and how come only one place can do it?

You can often tell the value of an item, by what it is going for in the amazon marketplace. If these sellers are able to sell it for a price in the range of or lower than amazon's than you know it can be procured for that price on a regular basis. These outfits like moviemars and importcd are often able to get it at these prices as well.

But those companies will match on Amazon. They are big enough to absorb certain "losses" to stay up there as a high end seller. If the price of VM went back up to $35, there might be a few people who would still sell for $9 to get rid of something they just are desperate to get rid of, but most people would adjust their prices to not be $20 less than Amazon's price when they don't need to be.

I can't see anywhere else right now where this show is selling for, on average, around $10-$13. Not even close. And if the price on Amazon went up again, even Ebayers would adjust. The market now is so low because Amazon is basically setting the price. It's been this low for more months than I can count. I really expected the sale to last maybe 30 days. But it seems like I'm going to be stuck with the show, because that price doesn't look like it's ever going back up.

Re: Is Veronica Mars always on sale at Amazon??

Amazon probably worked with the studio on the pricing in some kind of a deal. Moviemars and Importcd dont sell at a loss on amazon though. They collapse their profit line but always make a minimum amount of profit. It is available at wholesale for this price. I think this series has been out long enough for a considerable price drop. Unless it was discontinued, I wouldn't expect prices to be indefinitely high on it as it is due for a markdown at all stores.

Re: Is Veronica Mars always on sale at Amazon??

Amazon buys from whoever can provide the title they want at the lowest price point and then they mark it up to the price they're selling them. In other words they sometimes get them from the real studios and other times they buy them from dubious sources.
Do you remember the Have Gun Will Travel season set that was priced ridiculously low at Amazon? It had a defective disc. I pursued the issue up to the studio and they swore that Amazon had bought sets that were proven to be counterfeit from an overseas source. At least that's what I was told by a CSR from the studio.
It's rare, but happens when you seek out the lowest wholesale price. I find it hard to believe those sets are priced below their cost if the price has been there for so long.

I have one of those Have Gun sets and it didn't look counterfeit to me.

Re: Is Veronica Mars always on sale at Amazon??

Still sucks, because no one else decided to basically give the seasons away. I'm all for realizing the price should be lower by now, but it's ridiculously low considering no one else comes close in price. At least no big name company that you know won't make it too hard to get your money back should there be a problem.

Does this explain why re-sale in blu-rays is pretty much nothing anymore for most titles. I had a release that's been out for maybe 10 days or so and I've actually noticed this a lot, but companies are actually selling it for like $11.50 new, when it's still at $19.99, which was the lowest release day price, again from normal stores.

Who are these people/companies that can sell something for that low of a price and how come it's happening to almost all titles? Why don't people talk more about it? I mean, people are always saying, "I won't buy that at $19.99 but I'll buy it when it hits $10."

Well, that's going to be a long wait most of the time. UNLESS you buy from these "stores" on Amazon, because they seem to pop up around $11, 1 week or 2 at the most after release. They have excellent feedback. What gives? If they're legit, how do they do it and why isn't everyone buying from them when they're selling things at the best prices you'll see on that title from a major store until black Friday or the titles been out for at least 6 months.

I know that if you buy a movie and decide that you don't like it, you'd better be able to return it for cash or another movie, because selling something, even a good, solid, new release is also getting almost impossible with all these companies selling things for so little. I'd be nervous, but most people go with what costs them less, especially when they see 98% or higher feedback. They're killing people who want to make some money from thinning out their collections too, because selling something new for that low of a price makes used almost not worth getting rid of at all.

I don't get it. I can't believe I can't get $45 even for 3 seasons of VM that I've never even watched on dvd.

Re: Is Veronica Mars always on sale at Amazon??

The resell market in general on Amazon has just gone to hell. The marketplace sellers somehow are able to price their dvds $10-30 bucks lower than Amazon price brand new which makes the used prices drop even more drastically.

Ummm...you're complaining about prices being to low in a discount deal hunter forum called "DVD Bargains"?

Wouldn't this thead be better off in the store forum?

Personally I hope they sell the entire series for $20 or less one day...I've heard good things and would be into checking it out for that price.

Re: Is Veronica Mars always on sale at Amazon??

The people who price their DVDs low are stores like Buy Backs, they buy them for cheap and are able to sell them for whatever. It is weird that you are complaining about low prices, I love the marketplace, I've been able to sell a thousand DVDs/Blu-rays with minimum problems and able to buy hundreds for cheap.

Also, your mad that DVDs that you bought a while ago won't give you your $45-50 profit?

As a seller myself I can sympathize up to a point, but agree with BSE about you having a somewhat unrealistic expectation for a profit margin on this. In addition, you posted your bitching in the wrong forum, so even my minimum of sympathy is done.

It's worth the $40 linked above.

Also if you are curious, keep an eye out on Netflix, it's been available for instant watch before (it's not currently).

The lower the prices, the better. Sorry, zero sympathy for sellers wishing market prices were higher.

It's a great show. I got hooked and watched each season marathon-style on release.

Re: Is Veronica Mars always on sale at Amazon??

This has been an odd read. It's an old show. Nobody cares about it anymore and that's why it's selling so cheap. Why would you think otherwise? If anything, it'll go even lower. You might get lucky and it bounces back up a bit but then you'll need to sell it fast if you can. But how much more money can you really expect to get for it anyway? $5? $10? It's hardly worth stressing.

It's a critic & cult favorite. Shows like that hold their value. Sports Night and Freaks & Geeks come to mind as two others that remain pretty high.

Season 2 showed up at Big Lots at one point, so I think that set probably has a lot of unopened copies out there.

I waited a very long time for the price of Season 3 to come down. I picked up season 2 from Big Lots and Season 1 from Oldies.com When Season 3 dropped to $15, I was on it like Oprah on a baked ham. I think if a few more people bought it at the $15 price, you'll see the price fluctuate again. I would add it to your cart and keep your eye on it.

What's not to get? It was mass produced by Warner Brothers. It was found in Big Lots and grocery stores for $6. It was on sale at the $10-15 range at retailers various times. It was on Netflix Instant Watch for a long time.

Supply and Demand 101

Both of these sets were not mass produced. They were released by Shout! Factory. Shout! Factory spent a lot of money to keep the original music in Freaks and Geeks which makes it a pricey set. Sports Night can be found cheap though.

But it's NOT holding its value. Thus this thread.
(I bought a season at Big Lots myself for ultra-cheap.)
And I'm a big fan of cult stuff but by the very definition of "cult" means very few people like it. (Granted, that those few fans are rabid ones.) By now, most of those fans have bought it and nobody else cares. When the current batch sells out, maybe then the price will rise.

But the bottom line is: don't buy DVDs as "investments", buy them for your own entertainment.

Re: Is Veronica Mars always on sale at Amazon??

One of the problems is the OP is looking at the MSRP. The MSRP does not reflect what the retailer pays for the product. Amazon and every retailer probably only pays about $13 for each set. Warner Brothers has a $59.98 MSRP on most of their one hour show TV season sets. Just look at the MSRPs of Lois and Clark, Smallville, Supernatural, and The Flash. All of these can be found very cheap.

I just did a search on this forum and found a few Veronica Mars sales threads. In this thread from less than eight months ago : Veronica Mars- Seasons 1-3 $19.99 each @ Amazon, the OP decides to buy them. So the OP buys them for about $60 for all three and now eight months later would be happy with a $45 to $50 profit. It's not going to happen with TV seasons by a major distributor like WB unless it suddenly goes out out of print.
