Our generations Live Concert DVDs? Where are they?

When DVDs first came into the market one of my favorite kind was the live concert type. Pretty soon I got me live concerts of Led Zeppelin, Clapton, Beach Boys, Bowie, Pink Floyd, McCartney, Queen, ELO, etc, meaning all the classic acts.

But in all these years somehow beside the Flaming Lips, the White Stripes or Gorillaz there has not been too many releases of the more current acts.

I seen performances on TV of many bands I like so there is footage somewhere but how come I still don't have more live concerts of let's say Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, MGMT, The Strokes, Artic Monkeys, Devotchka, Beck, The Shins, The Raconteurs, Muse, Lily Allen, even Britney Spears doesn't have a current concert DVD

Although I appreciate the current releases of the aging stars I would also like the younger bands to release their concerts on DVD too. I would still go see them live when they're in town, I just want to see them as often as I want.

Just speculating but I would say you're in the minority. While you might buy the DVD and see them live, others would settle for the cheaper of the two options. Touring is what brings in the majority of a band's income so they'd prefer your butt in a seat at the show.

Arcade Fire have a sort-of-kind-of concert DVD out called Miroir Noir.

They are still coming out, at least in metal.

I've also seen a lot of CDs coming with live DVDs. Amon Amarth has been great about that lately.

Rush seem to be releasing every tour on DVD anymore. They're filming the next one this week.

Yeah, pick up Muse's HAARP CD + DVD ...it's the most incredible live show I've seen in literally years (probably since DM's 101)....it'll blow you away.

their Glastonbury festival performance is also great, and that was released on the 'Black Holes and Revelations' CD/DVD release.

Ashes of American Flags is one of the best concert films ever by the greatest current American band, Wilco.

Not to be a shill for TrixieFilm (who did the Wilco movie) but these 4 DVDs are great compilations of live performances by alternative bands. Chicago has Wilco. Portland has The Decemberists and The Shins. There are lots of other great bands and performances on them. They are all filmed in abandoned houses ready for demolition. The house is then demolished at the end of the DVD.

I don't like how they seem to include these DVDs with CD releases, sometimes as retailer exclusives. The DVDs never actually get released on their own.

Sometimes it's the opposite. I don't have a blu-ray player. I bought the BD of Bad Company live to get the cd of the concert that comes with it.

In addition, the Eagles' Hell Freezes Over and James Taylor's Beacon Theatre concerts were huge must-haves

I forget about the DVDs that come with CDs. Some have really extensive concerts. The Coldplay live CD came with a full DVD concert. There are a bunch of others too I can't think of.

Totally forgot about this disc. Even though nothing comes close to a real live Lips show, this tries to encapsulate it.

^ The Lips concert is good, but its true it don't come close to the real thing also they waste a lot of time interviewing people who are apparently high....

My favorite is Dream Theater at Radio City Music Hall. The performance of Octavarium gives me chills everytime.

Gary Numan's got about a dozen live DVDs out. Spanning from the early '80s up to six months ago.

If I remember correctly, the HAARP DVD has that spastic editing I have come to loath in most of the music videos of the last decade or so.
