05 All and Everyone
06 On Battleship Hill
07 England

It's not at all what I expected, but I like it. I'm interested to hear the rest.

I've loved pretty much every PJ Harvey album since Dry, so I have no doubt I'll dig this one.

Long after Liz Phair and Tori Amos have succumbed to the suck, PJ Harvey remains the last artist from the '90s where I feel safe buying a new album without waiting for reviews.

The new song starts off a little strangely, but by the end I absolutely loved it. Can't wait!

A second song, The Last Living Rose released:

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CWBrWhrKchQ?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CWBrWhrKchQ?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

From PJharvey.net

"A short film, directed by the esteemed award-winning photographer Seamus Murphy, will premiere right here on Monday December 20th. Murphy has directed a series of short films to accompany all 12 songs on Harveys new album Let England Shake, The Last Living Rose will be the first to air.

The 12 films will feature still and moving images from a 5,000 mile road-trip Murphy undertook around England. He has worked similarly with still photography on journeys through America and Russia.

Inspired and developed from themes in the new album, the films were made in the manner of classic photographic reportage - recording real & spontaneous situations. They make up a visual diary of Murphys journey, travelling light and alone, and his attempt to document England and the English.

Murphy has mixed his observations on England with images from his work in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Middle East - places Polly refers to in her depiction of England. The film soundtrack, the studio recording of the album Let England Shake, is mixed at times with footage and audio Murphy captured of Harvey in rehearsal and in performance. In addition some of the album lyrics were given a voice by people he encountered on his journey."

Album of the year. Now streaming on NPR.

Sounds like she's spent a lot of time with Nick Cave.

Listened to about half of it, and it's really good so far! She's literally hit and miss to me with each album. I think it is time for another "hit".

I can't think of a single album of hers I would categorize as a full on miss, although a few were less than great.

Late to the game but boy does that first track sound like it is backed by My Bloody Valentine.

Finally got around to listening to it. She knocks it out of the park yet again. I don't think she's taken a single misstep since Is This Desire, the last album of hers I felt wasn't totally fantastic. Everything since then has been tremendous. I love that she keeps pushing herself and her sound.

Really? Uh Huh Her seems like a steaming pile to me. I've tried and tried to get into it and I just can't.

I really liked Uh Huh Her. It's not the first one of her albums I go for, but when it's on I always enjoy it.

Agreed. I have an EP with all the B-sides from Uh-Huh Her, and it's better than the album.

The only thing I like about the album is it inspired the Band Uh-Huh Her:

Totally agree. I think Uh Huh Her is her most underrated album.
I really like the raw, grubby, demo like feel to most of the tracks. I'm guessing that's why most Harvey fans HATE this album, because it's so rough and unpolished.
But I think there is some gorgeous songs on this record; Shame, You Come Through,The Slow Drug, The Desperate Kingdom of Love all come to mind.

Oh, Let England Shake is on sale at Best Buy for $7.99. Heading down there right now, hope those dweebs down there have at least one copy of it on the shelves.

Don't most PJ Harvey fans prefer 4-Track Demos to Rid of Me?

Thanks for posting this. I thought I had checked on Sunday & it was still listed at $13.95. Unfortunately, the website is listing it as backordered & telling me that it's unavailable at my NINE closest stores. Has Best Buy ever made me happy?

not this fan. Albini's production on Rid of Me is masterful - one of my all-time favorite sounds.

I agree, Dry is like a punch to the gut. The demos are good but I prefer the studio production.

As for Let England Shake, I haven't been able to stop listening to it. I find it completely hypnotic and alluring. Every album I hear this year is going to be compared against this, and most will probably be found lacking (some already have, in fact).
