I had only purchased SNL S1 and ended up giving that to my 22 year old son. Since they cancelled the series sets I'm glad I only purchased that 1rst season But the Belushi set sounds like its a buy for me-

Yeah TVonDVD.com reported that they were cancelled because music rights were getting too expensive...Like they can't really afford it...Yeah!!!

Didn't they get the best years released anyway? If music rights are a problem, just release them sans performances (but make sure it's clearly advertised on the box). I'd say more of your sales are based on the sketches, rather than the live acts.

At least they released a good, even (odd) number of sets, by releasing the first 5 seasons. I'm happy having all five of them, although it would have been cool if they got to release the first 10. I didn't hear they had canceled them either though, so this is disappointing.

I still need the special edition of season 1 by the way. If anyone owns it and would be willing to sell it for, say, $20 shipped, I'd be VERY interested in purchasing it. I've got a 4-disc copy of the "Toy Story 3" Blu-ray I'd trade for it as well.

May I ask why you wouldn't purchase the other seasons? It's not like a TV Series which you need every season for the story, you can enjoy the 5 seasons by themselves.

That being said, I'm extremely disappointed to hear they stopped the season sets, being a huge SNL fan, up until a few years ago, that is how I spent my Saturday nights.

I finally got around to buying season 1 and 2 this week, plan on picking up 3-5 in the near future.

I haven't been keeping up on what the seasons cost in less expensive stores, but when I was at Barnes & Noble the other day, I saw they were all marked 50% off, which made them $35, on which member discount and potentially a coupon might stack.

Amazon has season 1 & 2 for $20.99 and 3-5 for $27.99, well worth it IMO - these are destined to be "shelf classics" in my collection.

The one advantage to buying at Barnes & Noble being you'll be able to verify they're the "Special Edition" versions with the book packaging and guide.
