Amazon DOTD: Black Adder Remastered: The Ultimate Edition- $34.99
Black Adder Remastered: The Ultimate Edition-$34.99
One of the best comedy series ever to emerge from England, Black Adder traces the deeply cynical and self-serving lineage of various Edmund Blackadders from the muck of the Middle Ages to the frontline of World War I. In his pre-Bean triumph, British comic actor Rowan Atkinson played all five versions of Edmund, beginning with the villainous and cowardly Duke of Edinburgh, whose scheming mind and awful haircut seem to stand him in good stead to become the next Archbishop of Canterbury--a deadly occupation if ever there was one.

^It's *nothing* like Bean and *yes* it's funny... It helps to know British history and historical figures for more laughs but it's not necessary to enjoy the series. It also helps if you enjoy and understand British humor in general, but again, not necessary. This is quite possibly the best price you'll see for a while.

Thanks OP! Well worth it. I purchased a $100 giftcard for myself since they have the 5% bonus in October. I'm sure I'll find something to spend the rest on during BF week.
This is actually cheaper than buying through Amazon UK. So, one heck of a deal!

Are there English subtitles on this set? Is the picture quality great improved over the previous DVD editions/are there new bonus features with this remastered version? --Peter

Much better PQ, new commentaries by Rowan Atkinson and a new feature length documentary (over an hour long).

I appreciate the quick response; normally I'd do my own research, but just didn't have time this evening...though I do have time to go snatch a copy

But I've been wanting to get this set only if it was cheap and I guess this was the cheapest I have seen it since. So, I purchased it.
Now put all the Red Dwarf or revised Fawlty Towers and I'll purchase those as well! Heck, even cheaper Dr. Who sets and I'll be happy. Hehe...

For future reference, this has more stuff than "Black Adder: The Complete Collector's Set"?
It seems like it, but maybe someone knows of something that was not carried over.

For the anal retentive complete-ists like me:
http://www.denofgeek.com/Reviews/284...vd_review.html
The only thing missing from this ‘Ultimate Boxset' is the unaired original pilot. Shot in 1982, this first pilot has a different actor in the role of Baldrick, and features, apparently, an Edmund Blackadder much closer to the one seen in the second season, as opposed to the irritating Mr Bean-like Edmund we got. It's a pity the BBC chose not to include this - it's the missing piece from an otherwise very complete set.

Unfortunately, there are a few additional scenes out there (at least five) that aren't included on these discs, which is a let-down for completists, but they aren't know as must-haves for any reason.
33.99 dvd
wait for blu?

Thanks for the extra information. That is good to know. I'll be honest, I can't see this ever coming out on blu-ray. There are already two strikes against it, let's face it is pretty old and it is a television series. Not likely. Another DVD set is also not likely for the immediate future. Maybe eventually we will get another Ultimate Ultimate set perhaps, but more than likely, it will be just a repackage.

I was impressed that an SD Deal of the Day got this many responses
