Xmas present question: Clint Eastwood's 35 films box set

Hey guys,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum (?).

I want to get my SO the Clint Eastwood 35 films in 35 years box set. I'm sort of confused because according to WB and Amazon, this item comes out on 11/2/2010:

http://www.amazon.com/Clint-Eastwood...ductPromotions

However, there are already almost 50 reviews on an older version from this link from amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Clint-Eastwood.../dp/B002Z7FN7Q

saying it's crappy basically. I don't really get it... I don't want to get him a POS present with none of the disks working. Are these separate sets that just look the same? Different packaging I guess? Looks like the old one contains a book that is lost with the new one. Do you think the new one will have just as many playability issues as the old one?

It looks like the most recent release just has the discs in cardboard sleeves. The original release had them in a giant book. Personally, I like the look of the new set.

A lot of the complaints about the set though stemmed from people mad at Warner just re-releasing all the old titles. For most Eastwood fans, the set was a waste of time and for non-fans it's a lot of money to spend when you aren't sure you want all the movies.

Go with your gut feeling and if you feel it's worth the money, then get it but I'd shop around to see where it could be a bit cheaper in price.

They were giving a ton of warner insider rewards points on the original set if you were buying it which could help get free blu ray or dvd rewards as well.

You should probably be aware that 16 of the discs are flippers, which have a mixed track record for playback. As has been mentioned, the 2 November release includes the same content, only it omits the book. That book is really an abridged preview version of the standalone book that was published separately. You can buy that from Amazon here, so if it were me I'd buy the upcoming release that takes up less shelf space and throw in the full book as a separate gift. Or you could suggest that someone else get the book as a companion gift if you know someone looking for an idea for your SO.

I think the new one also has Invictus
