A Movie For Every State! Agree / Disagree?

This is a fun map. Find your state and see the best film that represents your state. I was surprised to see that there are movies centered or themed on all US states.

I agree with most of the choices although I would be embarrassed if I lived in MO. lol I would chose "Into the Wild" more for Alaska though. Also, I remember Nebraska more in "Boys Don't Cry".

Why is Fargo on Minnesota?
Why is October Sky called Rocket Boys?
Why is Wayne's World on Deleware?

I always think of the classic thriller-comedy Brain Smasher: A Love Story starring Dice Clay and Teri Hatcher for Oregon, but to their own...

Forgot that the movie takes place in Minnesota, but it is not based on a true story. They may have seen some news stories that inspired their tale, but that doesn't mean it's true.

I'm pretty sure it's true, and the money is still out there for the finding. I'm going to go and personally investigate in a couple months.

Groucho popping in with a sarcastic response means that i'm 100% correct.

For Utah, it really should be Brigham Young (1940). 127 Hours would also be a good choice.

First thing that came to mind for Ohio was Major League! Never seen Gummo although I've read the synopsis. I can't imagine it's more representative of Ohio than Major League.

The Mothman Prophecies also comes to mind for WV.

The Night of the Hunter is slightly better than October Sky/Rocket Boys.

I got the map from EW. They offer some insight into the Wayne's World pick:

Fast Times is really the best movie for CA? Find that hard to believe.

Re: A Movie For Every State! Agree / Disagree?

TAXI DRIVER for New York is ridiculous. New York City is not New York State and has very little in common with the rest of the state. DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK would have been a better choice or some other Revolutionary War movie set in upstate New York.

By the way, almost every state has a movie with their state in the title. I once did a list of them. It was long.

Some I've seen or know of that are simply titled by the state are:
ALASKA (1944) - crime drama
ARIZONA (1940) - western
CALIFORNIA (1946) - western
DAKOTA (1945) - western (2 for the price of one)
HAWAII (1966) - historical drama
KENTUCKY (1938) - horse racing drama
MARYLAND (1940) - horse racing drama
NEVADA (1944) - western
NEW MEXICO (1951) - western
OKLAHOMA (1955) - musical
TEXAS (1941) - western
UTAH (1945) - western
VIRGINIA (1941) - drama
WYOMING (1940) - western

And then there are titles like OREGON PASSAGE, ABE LINCOLN OF ILLINOIS, HARMON OF MICHIGAN, CAROLINA BLUES, SWEET HOME ALABAMA, HOME IN INDIANA, SONG OF IDAHO, CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT, TENNESSEE CHAMP, THE GIRL FROM MISSOURI, JERSEY GIRL, etc. etc. etc.

Some of these are more suitable for representing their states than the ones given. Esp. HAWAII and CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT.
Although I, too, would pick THE BLUES BROTHERS for Illinois.
