re: Top 5 History War Films ?
Shouldn't the title of the thread be "Favorite History War Films" or "Top 5 History War Films"? Not "Favorite Film?" I came in here ready to post my favorite film, which isn't a war film. Tho it was made before World War II. Does that count?

Those of you listing The Patriot don't know your history very well.

- Das Boot
- Patton
- Tora! Tora! Tora!

i liked how Mel Gibson directs himself plowing down hundreds of enemies single-handedly, when the actual records show that the most kills from a single Revolutionary soldier was something like.. 5 or 6.
i would, however, put The Gangs of New York on my list, even though the only "war" scene depicted at the beginning was falsified heavily. you see hundreds get slaughtered and killed, whereas the records detail that only 2 people actually died in the fight. haha.

Re: Top 5 History War Films ?
I've seen a lot of war films, some are great, like Paths of Glory, Thin Red Line, etc. But I generally prefer films that take place within the context of a war but aren't about combat. Like Cantebury Tale, Mrs. Miniver, The Best Years of our Lives, When Willie Comes Marching Home, Grand Illusion, Bridge on the River Kwai.

I study history a lot and I already know these films are way off base, so I don't want to hear any shit.
300
The Patriot
Braveheart
Gladiator
Platoon
I also really liked Inglourious Basterds, but even for me that movie was way off base; way, way off base.
