Australian music favorites
Any favorite groups as far as Australian music goes? Maybe like a top 5?
1. The Easybeats- They are my favorite group
2. AC/DC- I'm a huge fan of the Bon Scott years and they share a big connection with the easybeats.
3. The Masters Apprentices- I really like their early stuff with Mick Bower and even their later material is mostly pretty good in a different sense.
4. Bee Gees- They started out in Aus releasing their first records. I really like all their 60s-early 70s work.
5. The Twilights- really great talented band that is mostly unheard of today, even there.
Honorable mentions- Hoodoo Gurus, Stems, Missing Links, Normie Rowe, Mike Furber and the Bowery Boys, MPD Limited, Bobby and Laurie, Rose Tattoo, Purple Hearts, Radio Birdman, The Saints

Nick Cave absolutely, the twisted Elvis of aussie rock.
Midnight Oil
Some Aussies claim Crowded House although don't tell most Kiwis that, but they've got ties to both.
INXS of course
The Church
Icehouse
And I do love the Men At Work too.

How can you forget Flash and the Pan? Hey St. peter is a great song.
Flash and the Pan was an Australian New Wave musical group (essentially an ongoing studio project) initiated during the late 1970s by Harry Vanda and George Young, both former members of The Easybeats. George Young is also an older brother to Angus Young and Malcolm Young of the rock band AC/DC. Both Vanda and Young produced several AC/DC albums.

Re: Australian music favorites
Yeah, insanely good stuff from Australia. Paul Kelly is one of the most underrated musicians I can think of outside his own country. He just keeps pumping out very good albums and has so for almost three decades. If I could join any band it would probably be The Church. While they haven't been able (and I don't think they care) to reach the heights of the late 80's, they are always worth hearing. I got to see The Saints in 1987. Really wish I could have seen them 10 years earlier, but even that band has been good throughout their changes.
I really miss Grant McLennan. His solo material and the work he did with Go-Betweens is also underrated in the U.S. Sucks so much that he's not here anymore (especially since he never lost the knack for worthy material).
Mid-period Midnight Oil also really gets me going. Anyone who heard "10-9-8..." when it was released would have been quite impressed with how odd and wonderful it was. I think they lost their way a bit after "Diesel And Dust", but I will always dig 'em.
I also think Hoodoo Gurus' "Stoneage Romeos" is one of the greatest debut albums in the history of rock and roll. Freakin' grade A all the way through. And who can not love Lime Spiders' "Slave Girl"? Just perfect.

Ratcat is a good Aussie band, it's shame very few people know about them. My favorite song of them.

Re: Australian music favorites
Also if you like Jazz music there is a cat named James Morrison. One of the most incredible musicians there is. His main instrument is trumpet but he seems to be a virtuoso on many. He has been around a long time and regularly plays at The Basement in Sydey.
