Arthur Penn, the stage, television and motion picture director whose revolutionary treatment of sex and violence in the 1967 film “Bonnie and Clyde” transformed the American film industry, died Tuesday night at his home in Manhattan, the day after he turned 88.

While I've always liked BONNIE & CLYDE and LITTLE BIG MAN, the one that has a special place in my heart and the one I most prefer going back to is THE CHASE (1966), with that feverish Texas small town setting; that Lillian Hellman script based on a Horton Foote novel; that great John Barry score; and that great cast--Brando, Jane Fonda, Robert Duvall, Angie Dickinson, James Fox, Janice Rule (hot!), E.G. Marshall, Henry Hull--the Werewolf of London himself!--Miriam Hopkins, Bruce Cabot, Joel Fluellen, Clifton James, Steve Ihnat, Martha Hyer, Richard Bradford, little Paul Williams, Grady Sutton, plus a few I've forgotten. The only casting note that bothered me was Robert Redford as Bubba. Too clean, handsome and polished for the role.

Watched Night Moves recently. He will be missed. RIP

Too bad. He directed some excellent films. I'm still waiting for Mickey One to get a release. Missouri Breaks had a oddball turn by Brando, but is worth seeking out.

This film is worth watching just for Brando's wacky performance.
