I have been racking my brain all day trying to remember more details about this movie. All of the information below is subject to being wrong, so if anything fits only parts, please let me know your suggestion.

• Sci-Fi
• Travel to another planet (assuming Mars)
• Space travelers assume there is no life on the planet, but soon realize that there is a whole population that has moved underground to avoid atmospheric conditions.
• That "native" race takes the good guys hostage
• The natives have seemingly superhuman strength
• The good guys escape with help from a native female - reaching for that memory
• The main point, and I'm sure on this one, is that the "native" race was once from Earth or at least "human" and many, many years ago they moved to this planet.

That's all I have. I know it's not much, but hopefully it sparks something for you guys.

I have looked at every Sci-Fi movie list I can find and spent way too much time searching for this movie.

Oh, and it isn't "Ghosts of Mars".

Sounds a little like FLIGHT TO MARS (1951, color) and a little like ROCKETSHIP X-M (1950, black-and-white).

And a little like ABBOTT AND COSTELLO GO TO MARS (1953).

Yeah, what era was it from?

Ha ha. It's very possible that I have jumbled some together, but I was thinking this film came out around early 2000-2005. I memory serves, it was also fairly popular in theaters, but again it could be a complete fabrication.

So far, the only thing close is "Ghosts of Mars". I'm going to try to find a copy of it and see if that's it. I just don't remember any "ghosts".

That sounds like a pretty twisted movie. I'm completely sure that has never entered my mind.

It is definitely not Ghosts of Mars. I just sat through that hole movie.

If you take away the "another planet" part it sounds just like The Time Machine from 1960 which had a shitty remake in 2000 something.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes fits, somewhat.

Nothing so far. I've checked every source I can find.

I do appreciate the suggestions, well, most of them.

Surely I didn't just imagine this...

It's a quest now! A quest to prove my sanity. Ha, it might be a long quest.

I wonder if it could have been an episode of some sci-fi TV show, maybe Stargate or something similar? I don't think so, but at this point I'll take anything I can get.
