With the most recent Robin Hood (2010) being released on Bluray next Tuesday I figured we could do a Robin Hood poll.

The correct answer is of course the 1939 Errol Flynn/Michael Curtiz movie.

But where is 1976's Robin and Marian? It's better than any of the other films listed (with the exception of the 1939 movie, natch).

I love the Disney one (probably due to it being my first introduction to the tale). I was also a huge fan of Ridley Scott's. But again, the Robin Hood tale is great in almost all forms.

I watched Ridley Scott's film last night. A decent but totally misguided effort. I *LOATHE* how filmmakers insist on dispensing of legend, fantasy, and whimsy and *INSIST* upon presenting "historical truth" or "as close to reality as possible". Which ends up giving us average to mediocre swill like Robin Hood (2010), King Arthur (2004), Troy (2004), etc. Gritty, bloody (well PG-13 bloody, anyhow), sweaty, muddy, magic-deficient takes on properties that are supposed to be either high fantasy or epic supernatural or somewhere in between.

You know who did it right? John Boorman with Excalibur. A perfect balance of grit and fantasy. It might have had a few flaws as a movie, but as grand entertainment it was fantastic.

Man I have the HD-DVD of Enroll Flynn's Robin Hood but I want to watch Douglas Fairbanks 1922 version first.

I've actually never seen a Robin Hood movie that I love. Though I haven't seen many of them.

Adventures of Robin Hood is one of the most fun and thrilling adventure films ever made. Nothing will top it.

Anyone that doesn't choose Flynn should be punched in the stomach, & then never allowed to watch movies again.

Should there even be an option at all? Errol Flynn defined and still defines the quintessential Robin Hood mythos. He was literally and figuratively perfect for that role. I think if Cary Elwes had not done a pseudo-parody that he would be a perfect fit for a series of Robin Hood roles in the 90s-2000s. Russell Crowe's take on the character was too much of a revisionist/historical take on the characters and story similar to King Arthur with Clive Owen. Some stories are just that: stories/fables/tales that get passed down through time that does not have a historical foundation.

I'm ranting now, so Flynn for the win!
