Sunset Blvd. Period. Caught this movie for the first time years ago on AMC and they had it showing back to back to back. I watched it three times straight I was so mesmerized by it. Still one of my all time favorites.

I haven't seen them all, but Double Indemnity is my favorite. Sunset Blvd. and Ace in the Hole round out my top 3.

He directed so many great movies that it's hard to pick one. I went with Ace in the Hole, as scathing an indictment of the American public as was ever released during the studio era.

Re: Favorite Billy Wilder-directed Film?

You left out ONE, TWO, THREE (1961), which was James Cagney's final film until he decided to take a part in RAGTIME (1981). He plays a Coca Cola executive in Berlin who is taking care of the daughter of his boss when she falls in love with a young Marxist, whom Cagney then has to transform into a full-blown capitalist practically overnight. It's very funny.

You also left out of the poll several other Wilder films I really like, including THE MAJOR AND THE MINOR, LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON and KISS ME, STUPID.

Also The Spirit of St. Louis and Five Graves to Cairo, the latter of which hasn't even been released on R1 DVD.

Sunset Blvd. I also like the creepy little pic he made with Dean Martin and Kim Novak called Kiss Me, Stupid. Really quite raunchy for its day.

Re: Favorite Billy Wilder-directed Film?

I had to go with a three way tie for Double Indemnity, Sunset Blvd, and The Apartment.

I like all of these, but Some Like It Hot gets my vote in the poll.

Re: Favorite Billy Wilder-directed Film?

Really close tie for 2nd with Ace In The Hole, Double Indemnity, Sunset Blvd. and The Apartment... but Some Like It Hot may just about be the most perfect comedy ever made, frankly, so there's no way I could pick anything else.

"Nobody's perfect!"

Some Like it Hot! It's one of my favourite movies. However, I also really loved Witness of the Prosecution and Stalag 17.

I have a profound affinity toward Sunset Blvd. Gloria Swanson in one of my all time favorite female performances.
