4 of the top 10 movies including the #1 movie in the country I've never even heard of. There is something terribly wrong with the movie-going public (or I'm just out of touch with what is popular).

Doesn't surprise me in the least. Films like Inception being #1 at the BO are a anomaly.

I hope The Expendables comes in over Vampires Suck, if only to reverse the slapping Friedberg & Seltzer's Meet The Spartans gave Stallone's Rambo in their first weekends.
I don't think Suck will have the legs, anyway. All the people who wanted to see it saw it day one.
It's the latter, but that's nothing to be too bothered with.

Funny, I had forgotten about that. At least Rambo out-grossed it in the long run, but I'm happy to see Sly take them down in his 2nd weekend.

Expendables came in at 4.9 and Vampires Suck at 4.4 mil Friday.
I can't believe people are going to see that schlock like Vampires Suck. I attribute it to not following their trend and calling it Vampire movie. Probably tricked at least a few idiots.

Did Piranha even have any advertising? I haven't seen a single commercial/tailer for it. Until I saw it in the list, I didn't even know it was coming out this week. I think I only new it existed because there's a thread here on DVDTalk about it. I did see a trailer for Vampires Suck a couple of times so no surprise to me that its beating Piranha.

The production budget for Piranha was $24 mil. I expect it'll have a large drop next weekend, so it probably won't break even at the box office. But I think it'll be one of those movies that builds an audience through home video and should do pretty well.
