I went with Poltergeist, despite the controversy of who actually directed it, and even though TCM is clearly one of the best horror films ever made, simply because I can watch Poltergeist over and over, whereas TCM is a once every few years proposition.

My gut reaction was Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but Poltergeist edges it out.

Derailed as of late?!

I went with Poltergeist. As I've said before on here, I have watched TCM three or four times and still fail to get the infatuation with it. I can see that, at the time, it was a very groundbreaking film. I can respect that, but I still think it sucks.

On a side note, I went back to school recently and am wanting to take a class that I am not required to take: "The Psychology of Horror Films." I'm hoping they offer it at night in the spring.

TTCM is his best film. I also have a fondness for Eaten Alive, The Funhouse and TCM2.

I loathe Poltergeist. I don't find it scary in the slightest and the performances are cloying. The schmaltzy Spielberg touch is all over this movie. I wish he would have just left Tobe alone...then the film might have had some genuine scares.

tcm 2 (1986)

Polter Guys, as I called it when I was little. Probably shouldn't have been allowed to see it.

IMO, it's still a scary movie to watch late at night.

Voted Invaders from Mars; probably not his best but I haven't seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I love the end of Invaders and it's got some cool visuals with Stan Winston monsters!

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The Funhouse and Dance of the Dead are also favorites, while many of his other films that I've seen were at the very least entertaining.

I hated Poltergeist and most of his DTV junk.

You should do yourself a favor and check it out. It's on the short list of the greatest horror films ever. Hugely influential with an equally compelling production history.

The Wayne Bell score and Daniel Pearl's cinematography alone are worth the price of admission.

The film was a favorite of no less a filmmaker than Stanley Kubrick.

TCM 2, in all of its insane glory.

No doubt about it. Texas Chainsaw Massacre. So many people flipped out and called it so violent and bloody yet you never really see much blood.

I really like Poltergeist but it's not his film. I have always wondered what the film would've looked like if Spielberg hadn't directed it

I voted Lifeforce, although Poltergeist is right up there too. Lifeforce is a good story, well executed, a frightfest. So is Poltergeist. I've grown away from mindless slice-'em-up, dice-'em-up slasher flicks and Texas Chainsaw Massacre is just a madman with a chainsaw, IMHO. -kd5-

TCM gets my vote by far. It definitely made a far reaching impact more so than even Poltergeist IMO. Also, I grew up literally 1 mile from where the original chainsaw house was, so it's something special to me - as odd as that is. I think just about every mindless slasher flick to come out since then has taken a page from the TCM handbook.

My favorite is Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. It such a crazy enjoyable film.

TCM... because we all know he didn't direct Poltergeist.

I think Poltergeist is his best movie, but TCM 2 might be his most ambitious movie.
