Never mind. I figured it out... its off previously viewed DVD (like the sale says); its not off used DVDs.

What's the difference between used and previously viewed?

I think the theory in the past has been that used titles are ones that customers have sold to Hastings. Previously viewed are former rentals.

In the fine print of the email offer, it also states that the code is good for 25% off used CDs. This works out a lot better for me than the buy2-get1-for$1 deal since I don't have to try to find 3 discs that are the same price:

As with all of their sales, there are some discs with which the code just will not work, but it does work on box sets (Beatles mono box for $70 plus tax).

I love Hastings sales like this! Ordered Aerosmith: Box of Fire cd set, Ac/Dc: Fly On the Wall cd, Ac/Dc: Flick of the Switch cd, Twilight Zone: Bernard Hermann Scores cd, Girls Gone Wild dvd, and Aerosmith: You Gotta Move dvd for $58.82 shipped. Mostly music...but there's lots of great DVD values to be found too!

One other thing I've found: Concert/Music DVDs are considered used music, so the 25%-off code works on them as well.

Found Short Cuts Criterion for $4.85 after shipping. I've ordered this from GoHastings before and it arrived sans the outer case and the book that comes with it. Got my money refunded without having to send the discs back on that purchase so hopefully with this, I can assemble a complete package somehow.

Found Virgin Spring Criterion for $5.99 (plus shipping; coupon didn't work) which says it was in stock but doesn't look like it'll ship due to now being out of stock. One of my pet peeves about gohastings.com is that they're slow to update inventory when out of stock. For example, this item is still up for order at that price.

Whenever I find boutique titles they more often than not get canceled for this reason. However, there have been some great deals.

Shipping on CDs is cheaper than DVDs, but I agree that I would purchase many more of their reduced-price used DVDs if the shipping costs were lower.

^^Yeah I've found some amazing deals on criterions from GoHastings. Its just a shame that the shipping prices have become so nuts that it can turn a great deal into not worth the purchase. Had Fanny and Alexander (Theatrical), La Commare Secca, and Short cuts in my cart yesterday for great prices, but after shipping, Short Cuts was the only one that seemed to be worth the money.

I was aware of the newer plastic case version, but was really hoping I would get the old OOP slip case and book because I really do prefer the elaborate cardboard packaging to the plain plastic. I'm not sure why so many criterion collectors prefer the plastic cases? Uniformity is not my thing in my colection, I suppose.
