EW's "Never Nominated for an Oscar" List (Acting)

Thought this was interesting enough to share...

1. Marilyn Monroe
2. Donald Sutherland
3. Myrna Loy
4. Christian Bale
5. Edward G. Robinson
6. Joseph Cotten
7. Jim Carrey
8. Richard Gere
9. Peter Lorre
10. Gary Oldman
11. Dennis Quaid
12. Mia Farrow
13. Richard Pryor
14. Maureen O'Hara
15. Peter Sarsgaard
16. Errol Flynn
17. Jennifer Jason Leigh
18. Fred MacMurray
19. Kim Novak
20. Jerry Lewis

--

Pretty interesting list... Out of those that are still alive I think Christian Bale has the only legit shot of getting nominated.

I thought Gary Oldman was nominated for The Contender? Evidently not.
Surprised that Carrey wasn't nominated for Man On The Moon.

I would put Oldman, Bale and Sarsgaard on the short list of eventual nominees.

Not a lot of those surprise me. Out of everyone listed, I think Robinson deserves one the most.

I would also list those three JumpCutz. Dennis Quaid should have been nominated for his role as Doc Holiday in Wyatt Earp. And Carrey won the Golden Globe for the Truman Show, didn't he? That should have parlayed into an Oscar nomination imo.

5. Edward G. Robinson is the only one that surprises me.

17. Jennifer Jason Leigh is a great talent that was sadly overlooked.

What about Jeff Goldblum (should have been nominated for The Fly) and Kurt Russell?

Richard Pryor in Blue Collar is one of the greatest overlooked performances of all time.

I was never really surprised by Monroe. I don't think she was used to give off her amazing acting. She had great comedy bits though, I'll admit.

Peter Sarsgaard and Dennis Quaid? Might as well list every actor that has had one great role if you list those two.

Donald Sutherland's a good choice.

Re: EW's "Never Nominated for an Oscar" List (Acting)

I can't think of a single performance by Marilyn Monroe or Jerry Lewis that deserved a nomination. Especially Lewis.

Peter Sarsgaard seems an odd choice. Why him over someone like Steve Buscemi?

Other than that, it's a solid list. Fred MacMurray should've been nominated for Double Indemnity instead of Barry Fitzgerald being nominated as lead AND supporting for Going My Way.

The French saw something in him.

I guess movies are only made in America.

Fuck this list. Where's Klaus Kinski?

Peter Lorre was the surprise for me. He should've topped the list.

The only person on that list that seems like a gross injustice is Oldman. It's hard to believe he's never picked up a supporting acting nod. Most of the others have had some good roles, but aren't as consistently impressive.

He should have been nominated for The King of Comedy. I can't think of anything else but that was a great performance.

The Nutty Professor

I was surprised by a couple of those names on the list (Oldman, Loy), but most I knew about already. Richard Pryor made so many bad movies that it shouldn't be a surprise that he is on the list.

Re: EW's "Never Nominated for an Oscar" List (Acting)

Is it possible that many of these actors and actresses were never nominated for political reasons? That may have been a reason why Gere never got nominated despite several very fine acting performances.
