I've only seen Avatar once but I liked it a lot. However, Titanic is a near masterpiece that I feel is definitely better.

There really is no comparison. I liked both, BTW.

Titanic - for a story we all know the ending to, it was a hell of a lot less predictable than Avatar.

Love both equally for different reasons.

Both films have groundbreaking special effects for their time.

Titanic has a pretty solid and involving and emotional plot while it's the absolute bare bones in Avatar.

Personally, I give the "better" title to Titanic.

Avatar is a great 3 hr movie

Since both films are based on true events, I'm going with Avatar - a much better story than Titanic.

Titanic - a big boat that doesn't have enough row boats and a diamond on the ship. Chubby Kate Winslet, nah...
Avatar - anti-military, anti-war, anti-corporation, Hayoa Miyazaki-themed film. Hot CGI Zoe Saldana, yup!

In the end, I think I'll choose Avatar. I'd like to see it a few times at home before making that a final decision.

Skinny KW wasn't looking too great in The Reader. I'll take the "chubby" one any day.

Kate Winslet wasn't supposed to look good in The Reader. She was supposed to look like a skanky, hairy-pitted, depressed nazi.

I prefer Avatar over Titanic, personally. While I enjoyed elements of Titanic, I always thought the story of how the ship sank was far more interesting than the love story.

Both films are equally fantastic. When it comes to which one is better, however, I feel that Titanic wins out. The word I keep using to describe Avatar is "amazing." The effects were the best I've ever seen and I really enjoyed the film so much (the three-hour runtime flew by!), but I felt Titanic is better on a different level. It's hard to explain it. Still, I'm deeply in love with both films.

Titanic is the better film. Take the hype about the 3D away, and Avatar is just an above-average animated kids movie.

Seriously, I saw "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" yesterday and the 3D was better done and the story was more original.

Yeah but whether or not she looked "skanky", the shape of her breasts looks terrible when she's thinner. And BTW she didn't look much thinner to me than she did in Little Children.

She was her hottest in Eternal Sunshine IMO. When she's in that retro dress with Carrey hiding under the table....

Ditto. As much as I didn't care about Titanic as a kid when it came out..the ship sinking was much more entertaining than the love story.

I rated Titanic 6/10 and Avatar 7/10, so... Avatar.

Also, bonus points to Avatar for not having Billy Zane.
