Should I watch the original "Inglorious Bastards" before QTs version?
I'm really excited for QTs new movie Inglorious Basterds as many of you are. Always been a big fan of his. Anyway, I got a copy of the 1978 movie "the inglorious bastards" with Fred Williamson. I can't decide if I should watch it before I see the new movie in a few weeks or not. Part of me wants to wait so I go into the new movie fresh.

Doesn't matter. They are only (mostly) related in name only. Watch the '78 version anytime you'd like because chances are it resembles QT's in no way, shape or form.
Edit: I agree with Solid Snake, so I voted you watch the '78 version first for the reasons he provided.

It's only an influence to QT's film. It's not like he remade it. I'd watch it and see what made Tarantino influenced by it with what he liked out of the '78 version.

Personally skip the 1978 version. It is very poorly made and hard to watch. Don't get me wrong I do like these older drive'in type movies but this one was just plain bad.

I've seen the original and it really makes no difference whether you see that first or not. There are many better Italian WWII movies from the 1960s and '70s. I'd recommend DIRTY HEROES (1967), which has a wonderful score by Ennio Morricone and Bruno Nicolai. HORNET'S NEST (1970) is even better, also scored by Morricone, but it was directed by an American, Phil Karlson (WALKING TALL) and starred Rock Hudson with an Italian cast.

I just watched it for the first time, and thought it was great. It would have been aided by a better score though

I dunno. I think it's mediocre...semi entertaining..I mean wasn't it supposed to be a Dirty Dozen knockoff? So..it could only be so good.
