Any Candiria fans still around?
Candiria was this kick ass band from NYC that played a lot in my area. They were a little bit of everything.
I recently got their second to last and second albums off of their website and I truly forgot how awesome the band was.
For those who don't know, do yourself a favor and give them a spin.
Also look for the side projects (I have mentioned and loved the Ghosts of the Canal).

Yup. They are one of my favorite bands. They had me hooked from the first moment I heard Process Of Self Development about 8-9 years ago.
I know the Hardcore/Punk/Metal community wasn't all about their musical changes post-300 Percent Density, but I actually enjoyed the newer songs (though the old material will still be my favorite)
Was lucky enough to see them live once.

I was also lucky enough to see Candiria at a Metallenium tour in 2003 headlined by Six Feet Under. God Forbid, Darkest Hour and Lamb of God also played. Candiria was absolutely amazing. Everything they do on their records they do live, going from metal, etc. to free jazz seamlessly. The musicianship was incredible.

Sweet, very impressed by the showing of Candiria fans here.
I saw them once, I think at Maxwell's or maybe the Birch Hill...hard to say where.
There is one band currently that comes close (and owes a LOT to Candiria) is Between the Buried and Me.

Both bands however are a clear reflection of their own personal influences. Candiria with Hardcore/Metal/Punk roots with splashes of Jazz, Hip Hop and Prog influence.
BTBAM's influences are obvious. One listen to their cover album "The Anatomy Of.." shows bits and pieces of bands that strongly influenced them. Early on heavily influenced by the Metal and Hardcore communities (members played in amazing Vegan Metalcore act "Prayer For Cleansing") with splashes of Prog. Lately they have really been jumping into the more experimental rock and Prog communities while still have a hint of Hardcore/Metal influence.

I honestly don't think Candiria and BTBAM sound alike. I also don't think BTBAM is influenced by Candiria.

What I was trying to say is that BTBAM isn't influenced nor owes anything to Candiria. Both bands owe more to their own personal influences than they ever do each other.
Many Hardcore/Metalcore bands around the early to late 90's, were starting to experiment with other genres and sounds. Candiria, Dillinger Escape Plan and BTBAM were the best of the bunch.
