The Collector ...anyone going to see? (horror movie opening 7/31/09)?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0844479/

i haven't seen a horror movie in theaters since "The Last House on the Left" remake which i surprisingly enjoyed.

the commercials actually have me intrigued, but also could be a cheapie, should have been DTV, if you know what i mean. also, not sure i would tout "From the writers of Saw IV, V, & VI."

anyone have any buzz?

Can't say I'll be seeing this.

The first time I saw it advertised, I thought it was an ADT commercial until I realized it was a really cheap-looking horror flick.

Meh. I'm all for supporting R-rated horror, but the fact that Dunstan & Melton wrote this doesn't get me too excited. My buddy wants to see it, though, so I might check it out.

The music from that tv spot has me in tears.

I've read a couple of good reviews, but it just seems to mine such familiar territory.
I'm not too terribly excited.

Hopefully it will be a pleasant surprise.

I was wondering what this movie was about when I saw the poster a couple weeks ago.

Might catch a matinee.

The poster isn't all helpful at explaining what this movie is about though I figured it was a horror film. I was surprised I won passes when I never entered a contest. They were for last night and I didn't go.

It's violent, spare, stupid, but not awful.

I cannot for the life of me fathom how this is getting 1325 screens while the Hurt Locker is only up to 523 this weekend. Thats just a dang thang.

I'm such a girl (and they can handle more than me) when it comes to slasher movies. I have to turn my head at all the blood and gore.

Re: The Collector ...anyone going to see? (horror movie opening 7/31/09)?

So, I checked this out last night. Totally derivative horseshit. I told my buddy that it seemed like Dunstan & Melton took a bunch of leftover, half-baked ideas they had for the Saw films and cobbled this crap together. Gaping plotholes aside, it was another boring, overly-gory "torture porn", a genre which, quite frankly, I'm completely tired of. I'd rather have a bloodless, truly chilling film than more over-the-top trash like this. The lighting was poor, the direction was spastic and the score was atrocious.

I disagree. It's a lean, mean, uncompromising horror film that out-Saws Saw.

There is no such thing.
Oh and stop calling it that. That term makes us all more stupid

This is actually been getting fairly decent reviews from the horror crowd. I might have to check this out.

I'll wait for Netflix. Everything Dunstan & Melton have touched has turned into pure shit. They single handedly ruined the Saw franchise and I'd rather have my eyeballs gouged out than watch any of the Feast trilogy again.

Decent reviews or not, I'd rather just Netflix it than pay $10 to see it theatrically.

I saw this earlier today. I didn't like the ending at all.

Re: The Collector ...anyone going to see? (horror movie opening 7/31/09)?

That review does a fair job of describing the ending, but I think we saw
Spoiler:
The Collector's car hit the ambulance, causing it to roll over and down the embankment.
That doesn't excuse how sloppy the ending was, though. The beginning of the movie is definitely strong, establishing a very suspenseful, creepy tone and environment. At about the halfway point, things start getting stupid and just get dumber and dumber, right up to the final shot. It's too bad, as if they'd just reworked things to snip out some of the glaring plot holes and more ridiculous scenes, this actually could've been a really solid movie.

I agree except that The Collector's van has no sign of hitting the ambulance at all when he gets in it and drives away.

Either way I'm glad we agree that it started out strong and just totally fell apart. I may have been a bit harsh on the score I gave it, but whatever.

I think its ridiculous how he was able to set up so many traps in a matter of minutes. Other than that, this is the most brutal and savage horror film since the full 2 hour directors cut of Saw III.

I'm really glad I didn't see it then.
