Re: Favorite Movie of the 90's: Opening Round/Group #5
There isn't a single match-up here where I've seen both films. Nor do I feel strongly enough about the ones I have seen to vote for them anyway. So no vote here. And no way for me to see which ones are winning if I don't vote. Not that I care enough. Oh well...
Still waiting for the GOODFELLAS-SILENCE OF THE LAMBS-PULP FICTION-JFK-BRAVEHEART-FACE/OFF-JACKIE BROWN-THREE KINGS-MATRIX matchups. But there'll be hell to pay if SHAWSHANK, JURASSIC, TITANIC or AMERICAN BEAUTY outvote them. (TRESPASS is already out of the running, thanks to you wussy GRUMPY OLD MEN fans.)

Point Break (Feel kinda bad voting against the very Good Red but Point Break entertains me more and s more satisfying and impressive.)
The Last of the Mohicans
Breaking the Waves (Extremely easy pick. I hate most submarine movies and Hunt bores the hell outta me.)
Leaving Las Vegas
Die Hard With a Vengeance (Now this was a HARD pick. Very hard. Both are great but Die Hard 3 is one of my favorite action movies ever easily and is my fav. Die HArd movie. Just a great fun script and SLJ is hilarious in it. Wish we'd get more moves like this nowadays.)
Matchup #6 (abstain. Have not see The Children of Heaven)
Hoop Dreams (easily)
Run Lola Run
Matchup #9 (Abstain. Have not Seen Quiz Show)

Goodfellas, Silence of the Lambs, and Jackie Brown all debut in the very next group!!

Hey Woody, not that it looks like it will matter, but could you change my vote on Matchup #8 to Close-Up? For some reason it didn't register as the Kiarostami film. Thanks.

I think we know now why Kieslowski had a heart attack: "Mr. Kieslwoski, you've just made one of the most beautiful, haunting, and magnificent films ever committed to celluloid, and in about 15 years it's going to lose an internet poll to a surfing movie starring Keanu Reaves."

(I also bought used DVDs of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's CURE and Harryhausen's JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, but those were a tad more expensive.)

"View Results" (Is there a "d'uuuuhhhh" emoticon for 'geniuses' like me?) Thanks, Woody. I can now see that the film I like the most in this roundup, WAYNE'S WORLD, is doing very well.

I think the best film of all of these is The Sweet Hereafter. But it isn't beating a Bruce Willis movie everyone saw.
