DVD Talk review of 'Kath & Kim: Season 1'
I read Cameron McGaughy's DVD review of Kath & Kim: Season 1 at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=38004 and...
I am glad to see somebody else is giving this short lived series some attention it deserves. I know it tanked in the ratings, I just don't understand WHY it tanked in the ratings. I think people gave up way too quick on this show and it took a few episodes to get used to the comedic timing, but this show did have a good sense of comedic timing.
Here's hoping it finds a new audience on home video.

I loved the show. Too many people couldn't get past the Australian version and accept it on its own merits. Such a shame, too.

I liked the American series set so much, I am planning to buy the complete Australian series sight unseen. From what I heard, I should like it quite a bit.

I don't believe the Australian show ever aired in the US. I'm assuming they were able to view it online or import the show.

I think the Australian show was shown on Trio in the US (so not many people would've seen it) - although it might've been Sundance. Trio would make sense because they were a part of NBC/Universal. I vaguely remember seeing promos for it, but never caught an episode.
I agree that people gave up on the US version too quickly. It was just odd enough for me to continue to tune in each week, but it took a while before I started to really find it funny & look forward to it. I don't know if it got better or I just got used to the style. More than once, I thought it was the funniest show of the (Thursday) night.
I'll definitely be picking up the DVD set. It was a total surprise to me that it was released. What's next? Raines?

Yeah, It was on Trio then was eventually on Sundance (I think) after Trio went under. The fact that not so many people were really aware of it made the viewers that much more protective of it. I loved the Aussie version, but it was VERY Australian. There was nothing insulting to the show or its audience to adapt the humor and references to American audiences. Fans of the show felt otherwise.
