I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good secret agent/spy films from the 60s? I've seen all the James Bond films and what I'm looking for is something with the feel of (the 1967) Casino Royale, Our Man Flint/In Like Fint or Pink Panther. Not necessarily a spoof but something with the same feel as those movies - a real over the top 60s vibe, basically the stuff that Austin Powers tried to capture. I have the Bond spoof OK Connery (aka Operation Kid Brother) with Sean Connery's brother and many actors from Bond films, which is a good example of what I'm looking for. Another good example to try to convey what I'm looking for is The 10th Victim with Marcello Mastroianni and Ursula Andress.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Definately check out Deadlier Than The Male. Available in the U.S but letterboxed. There is an R2 release that is 16x9 and double featured with the sequel Some Girls Do.

There is a whole genre called Eurospy. Literally dozens of Bond type movies made in Europe during mid-sixties. The Kommissar X series was real popular. I try to track down the ones I can. Most are from collector's labels and less than "stellar" prints.

The President's Analyst would fit the bill perfectly - a late 60's spy-spoof/dark comedy satire with James Coburn.

Ditto on Mario Bava's DANGER DIABOLIK (1967), starring John Phillip Law. And the Matt Helm films, esp. MURDERERS' ROW (1966), always my favorite of that group.

THE IPCRESS FILE (1965), with Michael Caine as Harry Palmer isn't bad.

THAT MAN FROM RIO (France, 1964), with Jean-Paul Belmondo, is highly recommended. It has the star doing a lot of wild stunts.

I used to see tons of these on TV, but I'm forgetting actual titles. Let's see...there was one with Stewart Granger called REQUIEM FOR A SECRET AGENT, directed by a guy who did a lot of Italian westerns (it was either Sergio Corbucci or Sergio Sollima) and I remember liking that one.

A close relative is THE FAMILY (1970), aka CITTA VIOLENTA, a crime drama, set mostly in New Orleans, directed by Sergio Sollima, with music by Ennio Morricone, and starring Charles Bronson, Jill Ireland, and Telly Savalas.

I used to love Secret Agent movies, but it's been quite a few years. I'm not sure how the "Man from U.N.C.L.E." movies (usually two-parters strung together and released to theaters) hold up. I saw three of them in theaters as a kid. And I loved the TV show as a kid.

You might want to try the Hong Kong versions, too. There were tons of them. The one I'd most recommend is TEMPTRESS WITH A THOUSAND FACES (1968, I think), although that's hard to find these days.

Also, The Avengers. THE IPCRESS FILE is an excellant spy thriller, down to earth and more realistic. It has a great sequel FUNERAL IN BERLIN. If you are also looking for the more realistic serious cold war/spy films, THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD is one of the best.

I saw the third Harry Palmer film Billion Dollar Brain recently and didn't really like it but I do want to see Ipcress File and Funeral in Berlin (which are oop unless I want to go region 2).

I have Citta Violenta (Violent City) on dvd and it is a fun movie with one of the best car chase scenes I have ever seen and a great Morricone score.
