It’s always interesting when various members of different rock groups come together to work on side projects—some more successful than others (remember, for every Temple of the Dog, there is also a Power Station). Happily, Discovery’s debut LP—a collaboration between Vampire Weekend’s keyboardist-producer, Rostam Batmanglij, and Ra Ra Riot’s singer, Wes Miles—is nothing but infectious fun full of perfectly summery electro-pop songs.
The album has 10 tracks, featuring songs like “Osaka Loop Line” and “Orange Shirt,” filled with twinkling electronic beats integrated nicely with Miles’s sweet indie-rock crooning. Others, like “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend,” teeter toward R&B, and there’s even a perfectly timed “I Want You Back” auto-tune-heavy remix that bubbles with the original’s exuberance.
