For me Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, Al Pacino, George C Scott, Bruce the Dragon Lee, Sean Connery, Peter minkey Sellers. Eastwood and Bronson provide the silent but deadly angle. Come to think of it they should've done a movie together. Pacino was just on fire keeping friends close and enemies closer. Scott could ride on Patton and Hardcore alone but he did other greats. Lee already an icon with just 5 movies. Connery showed he could go beyond even 007, Sellers for resuming Pink Panther but other things too.

Al Pacino. He was pretty great in the 70s.

I love Eastwood today, but most of his stuff in the 70s was mainstream "popcorn" fare and not very well-acted, with the exceptions of Dirty Harry (mainstream, but great) and Play Misty For Me (and possibly The Beguiled). Eastwood really didn't come "into his own" until the 90s, for me - both as actor and director.

The 70s were just so great, not only because my favorite actors were in their prime, but all the great directors as well. As far as favs go, I have to say Nicholson, De Niro, Hoffman, Hackman, and Pacino.
