Twisted Sister: Stay Hungry 25th Anniversary Edition - 06/30/2009

Twisted Sister: Stay Hungry - 25th Anniversary Edition comes out tomorrow. It has been re-mastered and also includes a bonus disc featuring never-before-released demos and a brand-new Twisted Sister song called 30!

But that's not all. Tomorrow only (06/30/09), if you buy the CD at a participating Independent Music Store, see link for list of participating stores, they'll give you a FREE bonus DVD of their "1984 Uncut Live At San Bernadino" MTV concert!

if you buy the CD at a participating Independent Music Store, QUOTE]

I didn't realize that there were any independant music stores left.
There sure aren't any in my neck of the woods.

I bought Stay Hungry on album when it was first released, it was horrible.
80's hair band pop metal. The only Twisted Sister cd that I still own is
Under the Blade, that's the only one worth keeping.
I guess you can tell i'll be passing on this.

Not a TS fan myself, but for those on Long Island, Looney Tunes in West Babylon (one of the stores on the above list) is having an autograph signing for the release of the album today, if anyone is interested. Only catch is, they're not specifically advertising who from the band will show up. Give them a call regarding start time.

Weird... there's about a dozen independent music stores in San Diego. NONE are on the list?!?!

I'll agree that Twisted Sister's high point was "Under The Blade", but I'm a sucker for free DVDs like this.

Was just thinking about this band yesterday and on live bootlegs from '80, Dee would be rallying against disco and praising metal/rock'n'roll throughout their live shows. We certainly need someone to rally against this hip hop crap that's all over the place these days.

Dee Snider, Mark Mendoza and Jay Jay French were on Sirius XM's "The Boneyard" yesterday -- so my guess is it will probably be all three.

Re: Twisted Sister: Stay Hungry 25th Anniversary Edition - 06/30/2009

This album was due for remastering. But this news is odd coming on the heels of 2004's 'Still Hungry', the re-recorded version of 'Stay Hungry'.

"'Still Hungry' is 'Stay Hungry - The Way It Ought to Be'," Jay Jay French stated at the time. "It has an ultra-heavy sound, which is the way we wanted 'Stay Hungry' in the first place. But at that time rock records had a thin, very midrange kind of sound and so 'Stay Hungry' was recorded very lightly. We battled Atlantic Records and producer Tom Werman about it, but we lost.

It seems to me in that interview Jay Jay French was implying they had to re-record the album in 2004 to get it to sound the way 'it was supposed to', but if that's the case what are we getting here? If remastering was possible all along, why bother re-recording it?

Yeah, but 2004 was five years ago, and a lot can change in five years. The re-recording always came off as a bit of a money grab to me - just another way to make a quick paycheck. I also think perhaps a lot of fans were not happy with it, and that this remaster, being more what they would have preferred, is a way to make up for that. Even if it is, essentially, the same idea - an easy way to make some dough off of the fan base

This is a kick-ass album that was really in need of a remaster. I'll def give it a spin.

Well, maybe this is just a remaster of what they had to settle for, even if it's not what they originally wanted.

Nope. I was sure Record Time would be on there.

Dee needs to forget about this old stuff and get back to work on new Van Helsing's Curse material.

As I understood it, the record company held onto Stay Hungry when the rest of the catalog changed labels. Remember they remastered the other albums back in the early 00's? Still Hungry was re-recorded to jump start their reunion as a touring band.

I had no idea this was coming out. If one of those stores was closer than two hours away, I'd go get the bonus DVD too.

My original CD of Poison "Open Up and Say... Ahh!" had this problem. Of course, back then, there was no real way of knowing of a "recall." I held onto to it anyway because it had the uncensored cover. Little did I know that they re-release this many years later remastered with the original cover. Oh well, at least I can say I had it back in the day.

I still hope to pick up this new version of "Stay Hungry." Since it was when I first discovered TS, the '80s glam sound doesn't bother me.
