Favorite Movie Element(s)?

basically, those little or possibly big things in a movie that you just love seeing. some might actually like slo-mo action scenes or bullet-time ala "The Matrix". or the complete opposite of your pet peeves.

1. i love that when in a thriller, crime or otherwise, the writer can inject some humor once in awhile and have it really work.
there are instances in "L.A. Confidential" with a build-up of plot and suspense there comes some bit of humor: Exley mistaken the actual Lana Turner for "just another whore cut to look like Lana Turner". i just love a brilliant script that can inject that type of humor almost from left field.

i just saw John Carpenter's "Assault on Precinct 13" and boy did i love it. it was so tense yet there was a scene, that just escaped me that was just a bit of humor in an otherwise tense masterpiece imo.
2. love when balls-to-the-walls action movies don't find some way for the hero to find romance with the damsel in distress.
"Total Recall" did it and i loved the movie, but that last scene with Rachel Ticotin and Arnold was excruciating. "Speed" did it as well and could have done without.

but, when an action movie where a hero does rescue a damsel and they don't immediately hook up is better for me. and there are those that just escape me right now.
3. jump scares.
when done right like in two Sam Raimi's "The Gift" and "Drag Me To Hell", that even if you know it is coming still makes you jump. there are many other movies of course: "The Exorcist III" (nurse scene)

what element(s) in a movie, that when done right, you never get tired of?

I love how, in the 1930s, movies often had natural disasters erupt in the middle of a turbulent plot, turning a high-powered melodrama into a disaster film in a matter of seconds:

SAN FRANCISCO (1936) - the San Francisco earthquake and fire
THE GOOD EARTH (1937) - a plague of locusts in China
THE HURRICANE (1937) - a South Seas islander escapes from a colonial prison to reunite with his lover and flee the island when a hurricane hits--the kind that can wipe an island completely clean
IN OLD CHICAGO (1938) - the Chicago fire
SUEZ (1938) - a sandstorm as they're building the Suez Canal
JEZEBEL (1938) - a love triangle in old New Orleans (pre-Civil War) gets rocked by an epidemic of yellow fever
THE RAINS CAME (1939) - interracial romance and a powerful flood in India

In these movies, the disaster inevitably popped up in the final act, giving viewers a chance to appreciate the human story and the characters before all the disaster action occurred.

Big-Ass Explosions

I love a good, loud fiery explosion.

TDK
the hospital
Dawn of the Dead ('04) the propane tank
Leon "shit"
The Punisher the parking lot
Jaws the end

and of course...
Star Wars the Death Star

I love one character kills another character without going through the movie cliche of making small talk allowing the intended target to get away.
Open Range
Spoiler:
When Kevin Costner walks up to the man that killed his friend and shoots him square in the head before he knows what hit him

Taken
Spoiler:
When Liam Neeson kills the man on the yacht who's holding a knife to his daughter's throat. The man starts to say something as if he's going to talk his way out and Neeson shoots him before he can utter a word

For the most part I really like when movies use the slow motion group walking shot.

I will concede that sometimes its an annoyance but I generally like when they pop up and there's ususally one person who stumbles as well.
