Yes, this is a Yet Another What Movie Is This Thread. 
I'm trying to remember the name of a movie from way I saw way back in the 80's. Basically it's about a high school kid that was doing something scientific. What exactly I don't remember. I do remember that his mother was obsessed with a TV talk show host, and she would call in and introduce herself as "Da-BORE-ah". What movie is this?
