How many of your hometowns have OPEN AIR SCREENINGS on summer nights?

This seems like a common trend now, right?

Summertime.
Local community shows a number of old/new movies on a screen at night?

Mine is:

How bout you? I know Maryland has some kick-ass ones.....

I missed the screening of Monsters Inc on Georgetown campus ...

I liked the summer screening I saw of Mission Impossible in downtown Bethesda Maryland last summer.

July 28, 2009 @ 8:45 pm: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1950)
August 4, 2009 @ 8:37 pm: Born Yesterday (1950)
August 11, 2009 @ 8:27 pm: Psycho (1960)
August 18, 2009 @ 8:17 pm: Young Mr. Lincoln (1939)
August 25, 2009 @ 8:05 pm: Tootsie (1982)

I am so seeing Duck Soup.

They do this over in Jacksonville Beach (FL) every once in a while. The main one I recall tho was Poltergeist on Friday the 13th last year.

Atlanta has something called "Screen on the Green" in a local park during the late-Spring/early-Summer each year. This year's lineup:

* May 28 - Back to the Future
* June 11 - Field of Dreams
* June 18 - Home Alone
* June 25 - Viewer's Choice - Big, Ghostbusters or Princess Bride

They have movie screenings at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery here in Hollywood- a zombie marathon would be very appropriate, but rather the lineup appears as follows:

June 13: Funny Face
June 20: The Graduate
June 27: East of Eden

Hawaii was great- they have something called "Sunset on the Beach" each Friday and Saturday in Waikiki.

They do this in various places around Kansas City. It's never really appealed to me to sit outside to watch a movie, though.

Lots of places around NYC, including Bryant Park which is just a block or so from Times Square:

Bryant Park Summer 2009 Free Film Series
Enjoy classic films under the stars from June through August at the HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival. It's always a great scene -- lots of New Yorkers picnicking and enjoying summer in the city -- followed by classic films including highlights such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Harold and Maude and The Sting.

Central Park Film Festival
From August 18-22, 2009 enjoy five nights of films under the stars in Central Park. This is the 7th year for this film festival, which will feature films with a the theme "Be Cool" - five films that feature actors or actresses who epitomize "cool".

RiverFlicks 2009
Every Wednesday and Friday in July and August, enjoy free movies under the stars. Movies begin at dusk (approximately 8-8:30 p.m.) and there is even free popcorn available (beverages and other snacks are for sale).

Summer on the Hudson: Movies Under the Stars
Free movies are being shown in Riverside Park South on Wednesday evenings in July and August. Films in the 2009 series will be shown on Pier 1 in Riverside Park.

Movies with a View: Brooklyn Bridge Park Summer Film Series
This free series features films and music on Thursdays from July 8 - August 27, 2009. You can bring a low chair if you like, but there are also chairs for rent, as well as concessions. Pre-movie music begins at 6 and the movies begin at sunset.

Portland OR does a bunch. From one on top of a parking garage, sometimes in Pioneer Courthouse Square, ones that cater to bicyclists, etc. Never been though, seems like watching the movie would be so secondary to the communal experience. I prefer outdoor concerts.

Re: How many of your hometowns have OPEN AIR SCREENINGS on summer nights?

In Maumee, Ohio, small community my wife and I visit for several weeks each summer, some local organization had a showing of Toy Story last summer. It was in a town park next to a local library, in grassy field used for local ball games among other things.

Don't know if it's a regular activity or not. I was just driving by on my way home when I noticed it.
