Has movie cash changed your moviegoing habits?

I was just thinking about this after seeing Drag Me to Hell tonight. I've seen 6 films theatrically this year, all but 1 using movie cash (although DMTH was a cheat, bc I used Terminator mc). Of the 5 I used mc on, I think I would have only seen one without it and just waited for the others to arrive on dvd. At this point last year I had only seen 3 movies theatrically.

I rarely see a movie in a theater without movie cash. Though, I don't always see the one the movie cash is designated for...

What the hell is "movie cash"?

And where do you get it?

Re: Has movie cash changed your moviegoing habits?

I've never used it, so I'm gonna have to go with "no".

I see maybe one or two movies theatrically per year, if that.

Re: Has movie cash changed your moviegoing habits?

It seems to me that movie cash is only offered on DVD's I do not intend to buy. Largely, these are double-dips of releases in franchise series (i.e., movie cash for Quantum of Solace with the 3-disc DVD double dip of Casino Royale) or they're for things that just don't interest me. In point of fact, I can only think of one DVD purchase I've ever made that came with movie cash, and that was Batman: The Animated Series - Volume One. The movie? Catwoman.

I still have the movie cash.

Nope. I've never purposely bought a DVD that had movie cash. I've bought a few that came with it but I either wasn't interested in the movie or I forgot about the mc.

Right now I have about 5 or 6 DVDs that came with mc and they all still have it. Heck, I think I still have mc for Lord of the Rings!

DVDs will sometimes have a $10 voucher ("Movie Cash") towards seeing another movie. For example, The Da Vinci Code was recently released on Blu-ray and it came with $10 Movie Cash towards seeing Angels & Demons. It is fairly easy to manipulate the online ticketing system towards seeing any movie though.

I always end up getting the movie cash after the film has been released on DVD. I just now got my Alexander and Inside Man cash. Ha.

I see more movies now, and only pay with movie cash.

I don't use too much Movie Cash these days, but yesterday I started using Costco's Regal Tickets. At a cost of $15 for 2 tickets, and the fact that they're redeemable for any show, any time, means all tickets are only $7.50 each. Great deal. Only thing is that for 3D movies you have to pay $3.50 extra, but that's still only $10.50 total, as opposed to $14.

Re: Has movie cash changed your moviegoing habits?

I used Movie Cash for Watchmen and Night At The Museum 2.

The Movie Cash for Watchmen was good for 2 admissions at $24 total. I got it free when I bought an XBox Live $20 point card at Best Buy. So I ended up with free XBox points.

My Night At The Museum 2 Movie Cash certificates came with 2 Blu-rays I wanted. They were on sale 2 for $35, I had a $25 gift card so I got Australia and Max Payne and BD for free.

Of course, that's my math. If you want to really analyze it...I paid $10 total for the BDs and got $20 in movie tickets and paid $20 for the Live card and got $24 in tickets.

Same here, the wife and I have seen at least one movie a weekend over the past 3 months using only movie money. The exception being IMAX, of course, since they do not accept them.

I doubt we'd see so many movies without the movie money.

Re: Has movie cash changed your moviegoing habits?

I saw, roughly, ninety films or so in theaters last year. And, if I recall, not one of them was using movie money.

I'm about 50/50. I have no interest in seeing NATM 2 but if i'm dragged to see it or I got 2 hours to kill, at least I won't have to pay.

Not much, I only get them every once in awhile since they rarely show up in the DVD's or Blu-rays I was going to buy anyway.

No, not at all.

Better movies change my movie going habits.

Someone found a way to buy fandango bucks with those so I bought like $80 worth of MS points and got about $65ish after the stupid fandango fee of movie tickets.

I also noticed that the Up movie tickets with the Target pixar flicks were double wrapped so I bought a few and got $7.50 off of each ticket. Which I used at AMC Pleasure Island at Downtown Disney. First time I was able to use it at an AMC after it showed up on the participating theaters list and I called them and they confirmed it.

Bwahahahaha...So yeah manipulating movie cash has "paid" for almost all of my movies this year.

Yes I know I'm bad.

Re: Has movie cash changed your moviegoing habits?

But, to answer the question I don't think it really has. I think I might have seen a few movies that I wouldn't have by using movie cash. Usually I would have watched the movie anyways and then go through the trouble of obtaining the movie cash to watch it. If it's to a movie I wouldn't watch anyways I isn't enough of an incentive.

Re: Has movie cash changed your moviegoing habits?

In the last 5 years I've seen at least 50 movies per year in the theater.

I have used movie cash for at least 95% of them.

Re: Has movie cash changed your moviegoing habits?

Nope. Used it a couple of times, but if I dont want to see a movie, not having to pay to see it isnt going to make me want to sit through it.

But that's when you use it to see a movie you do want to see. I've probably only used half of my movie cash on the movie it was meant for.

Generally the kind of films I want to see play at cinemas that don't take Movie Cash.

Re: Has movie cash changed your moviegoing habits?

I use movie cash about 90% of the time & see the movie it's for only if it's one I was going to see anyway. My theater doesn't care which of the 16 screens you go into once you've paid your way in unless it's a 3D presentation with higher prices. For 3D I have several Regal premier Super Saver tickets which ring up as $7 but are good for any showing any time including 3D. When I run out of Super Savers I'll see less 3D.
