This song I come back to every couple of years - great music, fun (if odd) lyrics, but most of the time I just don't know what I'm singing - and I finally looked up the lyrics.

This is one of the No.2 songs in the Billboard Hot 100 that is really recognizable due to its inclusion in film, TV shows, etc. It has "stayed alive," as opposed to a lot of other No.2 hits that have faded from the public consciousness after its peak year (I will create a thread based on this later).

I've listened to some of the other Crowded House songs from their debut album, and it really ain't bad! "Something So Strong" is a great song, as is "Mean To Me."

But I guess "Don't Dream It's Over" is the swan song. But what the hell is 'deluge?' Guess it is their country.

A "deluge" in this sense is like a very strong rain downpour, but can be used to represent anything of a large quantity in a short period of time. I hear it used in sports quite a bit. "Team X scored a deluge of goals in the third period."

Deluge means "flood." Is that really all you're asking? By the way, they had several great albums after that one. Good band.

Good pop music, but I really dug Split Enz and their unique sound.

I love Splitz Enz, but the highest highs of Crowded House are better (please exclude "I Got You" from that comment).

I said "swan song" because, for me personally, their debut album was the end of Crowded House for me. I know they went on and on and on, but.........

I still have to explore Splitz Enz a bit more beyond "I Got You."

I think Woodface is their best album, FWIW.

Just a small note to say that The Finn Brother's two albums are both terrific as well. 2004's "Everyone is Here" is almost criminally underrated, IMO. Outside of NZ, that is...

I would have just said "Oops, I meant 'signature song'," instead of claiming that I felt the band was finished after their first album, despite not having heard the whole thing.
