DVD Talk review of 'Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection' (Blu-ray)
I read Jeffrey Kauffman's DVD review of Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=37338 and...
I could not agree more. Spot on review. I'm totally geeked at having Trek on BD and can look past the imperfections for my own enjoyment. I'll undoubtedly buy the next set featuring the DC's & Ext.versions but, this will keep me til' then. Thanks for the review.

Thanks. I have gotten a couple of heated private emails from fans who are really upset about the image quality and the lack of Director's/Extended versions, so, as I said in the review, it's really up to the individual to decide whether it's worth their time and hard earned money.

I for one love the BD release of the Trek films. I watched IV today, and was amazed at the color and detail in the image, especially the scene where the warbird does a flyby. Looked almost 3D. And the scene where KirkSpock was walking past the Golden Gate bridge .. the details in the other side of the bay were amazing. But the biggest thing for me is that I finally never have to buy these films again.. after having bought them on VHS, then widescreen VHS, then widescreen Laserdisc, then DVD, and now finally BD. I will be glad to trash the VHS tapes (or record over them!), and pass the regular DVD's on to my parents who don't know the difference, and plain dont care.

In the funny but true department, today's Oregonian had a mini-review of the set accompanied by a still of the cast of Star Trek: Nemesis. Umm......what's wrong with that picture (literally)?

If it weren't for the price tag this might be enough to make me want to make the jump to BD. I'm such a commentary whore.
Isn't this the first time the theatrical cut of TMP has been available on disk?

It's the first time the theatrical cuts of II and VI have been available on home video in any format, IIRC.

Nope, the VHS of II was the theatrical cut. It's actually the first time the theatrical cuts of I and VI have been on home video. I had extra footage on the VHS and VI of course, was widely promoted as having additional scenes.

I agree with the review.
What I find disturbing is Paramount didn't take the time to do these movies justice. If ANY collection deserves the time...it's this set. And Paramount just rushed these out like a male entertainer with a revolving clientele on Friday night.

The theatrical cut of Wrath of Khan was released on VHS, laserdisc, and the first DVD edition. The later 2-disc DVD was the extended cut.
This is the first time that the theatrical cut of The Undiscovered Country has been released on home video. All previous releases (including VHS and laserdisc) were the Director's Cut.

The theatrical cut of The Motion Picture was released on VHS and laserdisc, but not DVD.

This has been bothering me forever and this is the closest thread to perhaps getting an answer. Maybe someone here at DVDTalk can help me out.....
WHY IN THE WORLD ISN'T THE TREK EPISODE "SPACE SEED" NOT INCLUDED IN ANY PACKAGING OF "WRATH OF KHAN"?
It only makes sense since, well, it is the prologue to the film.......
