DVDtalk's alphabetical Cover Song playlist - help create it!
Everyone likes covers and we've had a few cover song threads, but how about one with an actual playlist? As people suggest songs, I'll add them to the playlist. I thought this might be a fun exercise. This way people will be exposed to new covers and maybe learn something.
Ground rules:
To get the ball rolling I'll start out with A,B & C:
Master Artist List
So the next poster suggests a cover song that starts with the letter D, poster after that, E and so on. Easy.
Ground rules:
- To make it interesting, I want to go in alphabetical order by song title.
- Only suggest one song per post
- Make it a song that you personally like and would like to see in the playlist
- Feel like being helpful? Check and see if playlist.com has it before suggesting it to keep the flow going.(I know people like posting obscure shit, so check if you don't think its very common, same goes for live cuts)
- Not everyone is as knowledgeable as the next guy so post who did the original song as well(somebody might learn something).
To get the ball rolling I'll start out with A,B & C:
<object width="435" height="270"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.profileplaylist.net/mc/mp3player_new.swf"></param> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="never"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <param name="flashvars" value="config=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.indimusic.us%2Fext%2Fpc%2Fconfig_regular_noautostart.xml&mywidth=435&myheigh t=270&playlist_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.indimusic.us%2Floadplaylist.php%3Fplaylist%3D63283217%26t%3D1241 727470&wid=os"></param> <embed style="width:435px; visibility:visible; height:270px;" allowScriptAccess="never" src="http://www.profileplaylist.net/mc/mp3player_new.swf" flashvars="config=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.indimusic.us%2Fext%2Fpc%2Fconfig_regular_noautostart.xml&mywidth=435&myheigh t=270&playlist_url=http://www.indimusic.us/loadplaylist.php?playlist=63283217&t=1241727470&wid=os" width="435" height="270" name="mp3player" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" border="0"/> </object>

Mr. Tambourine Man - The Byrds (Bob Dylan)
And Corvin, your "B" song is "Wild World".

In my language, that starts with a "W".
Might I suggest replacing it with a live version of "Baba O'Riley" by Pearl Jam instead? Or if you're in the mood for a slightly funkier and more techno version, use the Blue Man Group's rendition.

And as this forum's resident Billy Joel fanatic, I'm just going to assume that Fist Of Doom just got our format wrong and of course knows that it is a Billy Joel song covered by Barry White.

- fixed B and J. (also fixed the ID3 tag on my Mr. Big cover.
thanks Decker)
- King's Lead Hat - The Dirtbombs (Brian Eno)
- Living After Midnight - The Donnas (Judas Priest)
Couldn't find either of these so anyone else want to toss out a new K and L?
Lot's of Dylan covers so far.

I'll take P:
Phantom of the Opera - Nightwish (Michael Crawford / Sara Brightman)
Question is, can anyone come up with a Q (or X, for that matter?)

Easy:
Quicksand - The Pietasters (Huey Lewis)
Actually I can't confirm who did this song. All I know is that it was written by an H. Lewis so I'm just assuming. I do know it wasn't written by these guys, but I can't confirm that someone else did it before.
For R:
Rebel Yell - All (Billy Idol)

I couldn't find Quicksand, so I took Mighty Quinn (aka Quinn the Eskimo).
I found quite a few for Rebel Yell. Never heard them, but Drowning Pool & Children of Bodom each have one. Both are pretty interesting.
