Fatboy Slim — You've Come a Long Way Baby
Of all the big beat albums, this has to be one of the more ubiquitous (second only to Fat of the Land). The songs got a lot of MTV and radio airplay and I remember hearing it everywhere I went in 1998 and 1999.
Then it died. And it was so overplayed that I had very little interest in hearing it again.
But revisiting the album now, over ten years later, it still holds up somewhat. It's still fun.

Still love that album. I agree it seemed to be way too overplayed for a while, but I think its freshness has come back to me as well.
Norman Cook is still putting on great shows. These were from Coachella '08.

I am a Fatboy Slim bitch. So much so that my dog (born in 2001) was named Norman.
That album opened up a whole world to me. Rockafeller Skank album cut is simply 10x better than the radio cut. The little bit on quantity really effects the quality.
I saw him live exactly one week before 9/11 at the Pier in NYC. 70 degrees, outdoors on a beautiful night. Amazing.
Saw him at "The Funeral of Centro Fly" which was a club that he headlined the closing party in NYC. He "came out" in a coffin being carried by pall bearers to "Live and Let Die".
If you have neevr seen "Big Beach Boutique 2" on DVD, at least give it a rent. Free show for 250k people in Brighton (where he lives) that really showcases how much fun this man is live.
If you ever see his "Cribs" episode, it is hysterical. He keeps his awards in the laundry room so when he is ironing his clothes he can look at them and remind himself he really did make it. He keeps his wedding pics in the bathroom so when he is shitting he can look at them and remember the happiest day of his life.
He entered himself into rehab a few weeks back for alcohol.
Enough rambling.....

Great album, but I can definitely stand to never hear Rockafeller Skank ever again.
My favorite cut is "You're Not From Brighton", it mixes quite well with Digital Underground's Doowhatchyalike.
I'd still give Exit Planet Dust the nod as the absolute "classic" album of the genre.

I sort of giggle every time I hear The Housemartins (like 'em!). Just that it's amazing someone went from that to Fatboy Slim (via Beats International). Anyway, that really is an amazing piece of work.

Going to see Fatboy tonight in NYC! It's his first time playing here since the closing of Centro Fly, which was probably about 7 years ago now.
Can't wait!
