I've got a JVC region-free dvd player I bought approximately 5 years ago. It has always worked fine, no problems whatsoever. In the past few months I have only been able to play a select few region 1 dvds (the last one that worked was "My Bloody Valentine"). Whenever I insert a region 1 dvd it says "no disc".

The funny thing is that whenever I put a region 2 dvd in they work 9/10.

Anyone ever experienced this or have any suggestions? Or is it just time to get a new player?

That's about how long they last. That's a new one on me, one region failing first. Any way to do some deep, factory reset?

You've got me there. I never had problems until recently so I've never had to worry about any kind of reset or where to even start with that. The most I've had to do with the player is power on and play.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that any backup copy (burned disc) works perfectly no matter the region. These discs work 100% of the time. [Mod note: We do not allow discussions of "backup copy" discs at DVD Talk. It is illegal to crack the CSS and that's a good way to get your thread closed.]

I just moved my ps3 to the same tv as the dvd player, so I may just stay with that set up for awhile. Between the 2 I should be able to play all dvds. I just hate using the ps3 controller as a remote.
